Metabolic syndrome and C reactive protein are associated with a reduced myocardial mechano-energetic efficiency
CONCLUSION: Non-diabetic and prediabetic individuals with metabolic syndrome exhibit increased stroke work and myocardial oxygen consumption, and an impaired MEEi, an established predictor of adverse cardiovascular events, and elevated hsCRP levels in combination with metabolic syndrome aggravates the myocardial MEEi impairment.PMID:37235788 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgad300

Uric acid and neurological disease: a narrative review
Hyperuricemia often accompanies hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, metabolic syndrome, and chronic renal disease; it is also closely related to cardiovascular disease. Moreover, several epidemiological studies have linked hyperuricemia and ischemic stroke. However, uric acid may also have neuroprotective effects because of its antioxidant properties. An association between low uric acid levels and neurodegenerative diseases has been suggested, which may be attributed to diminished neuroprotective effects as a result of reduced uric acid. This review will focus on the relationship between uric acid and various neurologic...

Association of polycystic ovary syndrome with cardiovascular disease among US female hospitalizations

Elevated Aminotransferase Levels and Intracerebral Hemorrhage Deaths in a General Japanese Population
Int Heart J. 2023;64(4):678-683. doi: 10.1536/ihj.23-027.ABSTRACTAlthough chronic liver disease has been associated with cardiovascular disease, to which metabolic syndrome might be related, intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) generally has not been focused. Associations of chronic liver disease assessed by aspartate (AST) and alanine (ALT) aminotransferase levels with ICH deaths were examined using 15,952 subjects without a history of cardiovascular disease who underwent annual health checkups in 1997 in Japan. Proportional hazards regression analyses adjusted for age, sex, hypertension, current smoking, diabetes mellitus, dri...
