Malnutrition risk in hospitalized patients measured with Nutrition Risk Screening 2002 tool and its association with in-hospital mortality
CONCLUSIONS: AMR revealed that NRS-2002 is positive in approximately half of the hospitalized patients, which is associated with in-hospital mortality independent of the underlying diseases. NT is related to weight gain and increased serum albumin.PMID:37401318 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202306_32820

Association of nutritional indices and prognosis of stroke patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Assessing malnutrition in stroke patients at the time of hospital admission using any of the three nutritional indices is useful due to the observed association of malnutrition with survival and functional outcomes. However, due to a limited number of studies, there is a need for large prospective studies to validate the findings observed in this meta-analysis.PMID:37401317 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202306_32819

Haem Iron Intake Is Associated with Increased Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events, All-Cause Mortality, Congestive Cardiac Failure, and Coronary Revascularisation in Older Men: The Concord Health and Ageing in Men Project
ConclusionHigher haem iron intake was independently associated with increased risks of five-point MACE, four-point MACE excluding all-cause mortality, all-cause mortality, CCF, and coronary revascularisation in older men over 5 years.

Cardiocerebrovascular risk in sensorineural hearing loss: results from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2015 to 2018
ConclusionOur findings suggested that a higher cardiocerebrovascular risk burden was associated with an increased risk of SNHL, and the relationship may be influenced by age and sex. Future longitudinal studies are needed to investigate the mechanistic and pathologic vascular hypothesis of SNHL.

Estimated population health benefits of intensive systolic blood pressure treatment among SPRINT-eligible US adults
CONCLUSIONS: Most of the population health benefit from intensive SBP goals could be achieved by treating those characterized by a previously published algorithm as having medium or high predicted benefit.PMID:37378472 | DOI:10.1093/ajh/hpad047

Red Meat Consumption and its Relationship With Cardiovascular Health: A Review of Pathophysiology and Literature
Cardiol Rev. 2023 Jun 26. doi: 10.1097/CRD.0000000000000575. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRed meat is the muscle meat of mammals like beef, lamb, and pork that is red due to the abundance of myoglobin pigment and becomes even darker when cooked. The global average per capita consumption of meat and the total amount of meat consumed is rising, and there has been a particularly marked increase in the global consumption of chicken and pork. The consumption of red meat has always been a contentious issue, with data suggesting benefits in terms of nutritional value and at the same time linking its consumption to major health d...

Stratification of US adults based on exposure to lead, cadmium, manganese, and mercury and their effects on cardiovascular diseases
ConclusionsExposure to high levels of metal mixtures may be a potential predictor of CVDs. Unsupervised clustering method-based stratification of the population using metal mixtures provides a reliable and promising method for the analysis of the relationship between metal mixtures and health endpoints.

7 Myths About Cholesterol, Debunked
You may not recall every lab value from your last physical, but you probably remember one: Your cholesterol level. If it’s higher than ideal, you’re not alone. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, between 2015 and 2018, almost 12% of U.S. adults ages 20 and up had high total cholesterol, defined as above 240 mg/dL. The type that physicians mostly worry about is LDL (or “bad”) cholesterol, which is one component of that total. Why do doctors care so much about cholesterol? First, “it predicts risk,” says Dr. Jeffrey Berger, a cardiologist and director of the C...

Prospective associations between diet quality, dietary components, and risk of cardiometabolic multimorbidity in older British men
ConclusionsOur study did not find a significant association of baseline EDI with CMM but showed that consuming more fish/seafood per week was associated with a lower risk of transition from FCMD to CMM in older British men.

Association and mediating mechanism between remnant cholesterol and first-ever stroke among the Chinese general population
CONCLUSION: High RC increased the risk of first-ever stroke in the Chinese general population without previous stroke and myocardial infarction, partially through the pathway of hypertension. RC might be a potential target for the primary prevention of stroke.PMID:37304024 | PMC:PMC10247974 | DOI:10.3389/fnins.2023.1161367
