Does Weekends Effect Exist in Asia? Analysis of Endovascular Thrombectomy for Acute Ischemic Stroke in A Medical Center
Conclusions This study revealed nonworking-hour effects truly exist in patients who received EST. Although delays in door-to-groin puncture times were noticed during nonworking hours, significant differences in neurological functions and mortality were not observed between working and nonworking hours. Nevertheless, methods to improve the process during nonworking hours should be explored in the future.PMID:35894472 | DOI:10.2174/1567202619666220727094020

TEVAR with Supra-Aortic Trunk Revascularization is Associated with Increased Risk of Periprocedural Ischemic Stroke
Ischemic stroke is a devastating complication of thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR). This risk may be higher in more proximal aneurysms that require arch manipulation. The purpose of this study was to (1) describe 30-day stroke and death rates in patients undergoing TEVAR, (2) compare stroke rates in patients undergoing TEVAR for arch versus descending aneurysm pathology, and (3) identify predictive factors associated with stroke after TEVAR.

Stroke propensity in the Th3+/ mouse model of β-thalassemia intermedia
Neurobiol Dis. 2022 Jun 23:105802. doi: 10.1016/j.nbd.2022.105802. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTβ-thalassemia is associated with multiple hematological and cerebrovascular symptoms linked to a hypercoagulable state that has not been fully replicated in animal models for the development of stroke treatments. Herein we compared the physiological properties and responses to transient cerebral hypoxia-ischemia (tHI) between six-month-old wildtype and heterozygous Th3/+ mice, a model of non-transfusion-dependent β-thalassemia intermedia (β-TI). We found that Th3/+ mice developed microcytic anemia, splenomegaly, higher plate...

Sex Difference in the Associations among Obesity-Related Indices with Incident Hypertension in a Large Taiwanese Population Follow-Up Study
In conclusion, the studied obesity-related indices were found to be predictors of incident hypertension, and there were differences in the associations between the male and female participants. Our findings may imply that reducing body weight may be associated with a lower risk of developing hypertension.PMID:35743756 | DOI:10.3390/jpm12060972

Impaired renal function and mortalities in acute heart failure with different phenotypes
ConclusionsOn-admission IRF was independently predictive of long-term mortality in patients hospitalized for HF, irrespective of HF phenotypes. Furthermore, IRF was also associated with short-term mortality in HFrEF and HFmrEF, but not in HFpEF.

Immunoregulation of Ghrelin in neurocognitive sequelae associated with COVID-19: an in silico investigation
In this study, we explored, by bioinformatics approaches, the interaction between the multiple inflammatory agents involved in SARS-CoV-2 and Ghrelin (Ghre) together with its receptor GHSR-1A, which are described as anti-inflammatory mediators, in order to investigate what could trigger the hyper-inflammatory response in some SARS-CoV-2 patients. In our analysis, we found several interactions of Ghre and GHSR-1A with SARS-CoV-2 interacting human genes. We observed a correlation between Ghre, angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 ACE2, toll-like receptors 9 (TLR9), and Acidic chitinase (CHIA), whereas its receptor GHSR-1A interac...

Migraine with aura associates with a higher artificial intelligence: ECG atrial fibrillation prediction model output compared to migraine without aura in both women and men
CONCLUSIONS: Utilizing a novel AI-ECG algorithm on a large group of patients, we demonstrated that patients with MwA have a significantly higher AF prediction model output, implying a higher probability of concurrent paroxysmal or impending AF, compared to MwoA in both women and men. Our results suggest that MwA is an independent risk factor for AF, especially in patients <55 years old, and that AF-mediated cardioembolism may play a role in the migraine-stroke association for some patients.PMID:35676887 | DOI:10.1111/head.14339
