Long-term outcomes of left atrial appendage occlusion in patients with atrial fibrillation and end stage renal disease
CONCLUSIONS: Long-term outcomes of LAAO therapy may be less favorable in patients with AF undergoing dialysis, possibly because of the poor condition of patients with ESRD.PMID:37394333 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfma.2023.06.016

Percutaneous coronary intervention versus coronary artery bypass grafting among patients with left ventricular systolic dysfunction: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: The results of this meta-analysis suggest that CABG is superior to PCI for patients with LVSD. CABG was associated with a lower risk of all-cause mortality, repeat revascularization, and incidence of myocardial infarction compared with PCI in patients with LVSD.PMID:37363575 | PMC:PMC10289746 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000000634

Relationships between stroke prevalence, health literacy, and oral health-related quality of life in middle-aged and older adults: a national survey study
Stroke may cause debilitating neurological deficiencies that result in motor, sensory, and cognitive deficits and poorer psychosocial functioning. Prior studies have provided some initial evidence for the sign...

Gender Disparities In Patients With Heartmate 3 Left Ventricular Assist Device
Historically, significant gender disparities have existed with patients undergoing 1st and 2nd generation left ventricular assist devices (LVAD) —females tend to have increased mortality and rate of complications such as stroke. In its latest generation, Heartmate 3 (HM3) LVAD has shown significant improvements to prior generations, and significantly lower complications rates including disabling stroke and reoperation. However, gender disp arities with 3rd generation devices such as the HM3 are still unknown.

Antimicrobial peptide cathelicidin LL-37 preserves intestinal barrier and organ function in rats with heat stroke
Biomed Pharmacother. 2023 Mar 21;161:114565. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2023.114565. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGlobal warming increases the incidence of heat stroke (HS) and HS causes the reduction of visceral blood flow during hyperthermia, leading to intestinal barrier disruption, microbial translocation, systemic inflammation and multiple organ failure. Cathelicidin LL-37 exhibits antimicrobial activities, helps innate immunity within the gut to maintain intestinal homeostasis, and augments intestinal wound healing and barrier function. Thus, we evaluated the effects and possible mechanisms of cathelicidin LL-37 on HS. W...

Validating stroke-induced bilateral ankle coordination deficits using bilateral ankle measure relationship with motor functions in lower limbs
Coordinated control between the bilateral ankle joints plays an important role in performing daily life functions, such as walking and running. However, few studies have explored the impact of stroke on moveme...

Three ways to improve arm function in the chronic phase after stroke by robotic priming combined with mirror therapy, arm training and movement-oriented therapy
To examine the effects of bilateral robotic priming combined with mirror therapy (R-mirr) versus bilateral robotic priming combined with bilateral arm training (R-bilat), relative to the control approach of bilateral robotic priming combined with movement-oriented training (R-mov) in patients with stroke.

The Impact of Complete Revascularization in Symptomatic Severe Left Ventricular Dysfunction between Coronary Artery Bypass Graft and Percutaneous Coronary Intervention
CONCLUSIONS: In patients with symptomatic (NYHA class ≥ 3) severe LV dysfunction and CAD, CABG brought less HF admission when compared to patients in the PCI group, but this did not differ when compared to the complete revascularization subgroup. Therefore, an extensive revascularization, achieved by CABG or PCI, is associated with a lower HF hospitalization rate during the 3-yearfollow-up period in such populations.PMID:36896424 | PMC:PMC9991473 | DOI:10.1155/2023/9226722
