Risk of Major Cardiovascular Disease after Exposure to Contrast Media: A Nationwide Population-Based Cohort Study on Dialysis Patients
Metabolites. 2023 Feb 13;13(2):266. doi: 10.3390/metabo13020266.ABSTRACTContrast associated kidney injury is caused by side effects of iodinated contrast media (ICM), including inflammation. Chronic inflammation among dialysis patient contributes to atherosclerosis, which leads to simultaneous conditions of the kidney, brain, and vasculature. Data to investigate the pathologic effects of ICM on cardiovascular complications in dialysis patients are lacking. Dialysis patients who had been exposed to ICM from computed tomography (ICM-CT) were allocated as the ICM-CT cohort (N = 3751), whereas dialysis patients without ICM exp...

IJERPH, Vol. 20, Pages 4123: Predicting Arm Nonuse in Individuals with Good Arm Motor Function after Stroke Rehabilitation: A Machine Learning Study
Keh-Chung Lin Many stroke survivors demonstrate arm nonuse despite good arm motor function. This retrospective secondary analysis aims to identify predictors of arm nonusers with good arm motor function after stroke rehabilitation. A total of 78 participants were categorized into 2 groups using the Fugl-Meyer Assessment Upper Extremity Scale (FMA-UE) and the Motor Activity Log Amount of Use (MAL-AOU). Group 1 comprised participants with good motor function (FMA-UE ≥ 31) and low daily upper limb use (MAL-AOU ≤ 2.5), and group 2 comprised all other participants. Feature selection analysis was perf...

Predicting patient-reported outcome of activities of daily living in stroke rehabilitation: a machine learning study
Machine Learning is increasingly used to predict rehabilitation outcomes in stroke in the context of precision rehabilitation and patient-centered care. However, predictors for patient-centered outcome measure...

IJERPH, Vol. 20, Pages 3065: Developmental Trajectories and Predictors of Incident Dementia among Elderly Taiwanese People: A 14-Year Longitudinal Study
uey Bai The aim of this study was to identify dementia trajectories and their associated predictors among elderly Taiwanese people over a 14-year period using a nationwide representative longitudinal study. This retrospective cohort study was performed using the National Health Insurance Research Database. Group-based trajectory modeling (GBTM) was used to distinguish the specific trajectory groups of incident dementia during 2000–2013. All 42,407 patients were classified by GBTM to identify the trajectory of incident dementia, which included high- (n = 11,637, 29.0%), moderate- (n = 19,036, 44.9%), and l...

From self-care behaviours to cardiometabolic risks prevention for the health of farmers: Nursing implications
CONCLUSION: The farmers in this study had a high prevalence of cardiometabolic risks, a high probability of stroke, inadequate number of remaining teeth and poor oral hygiene behaviours. These findings can provide evidence to develop health promotion programmes for farmers.IMPACT: This study demonstrates the health needs of farmers. We strongly recommend that community nurses empower farmers to engage in self-care behaviours through tailored health promotion programmes. For instance, by discussing cardiometabolic risk prevention from the farmers' perspectives to improve their health literacy.PMID:36695405 | DOI:10.1111/jan.15571

IJERPH, Vol. 20, Pages 1419: Efficacy and Cost over 12 Hospitalization Weeks of Postacute Care for Stroke
eh-Ting Yeh Few studies have investigated changes in functional outcomes and economic burden in patients in the postacute care cerebrovascular disease (PAC-CVD) program. We, for the first time, retrospectively investigated changes in functional performance and the national health insurance (NHI) cost over 12 PAC-CVD hospitalization weeks and evaluated the therapeutic effects of the PAC-CVD program on the NHI cost. Specifically, the functional outcomes and NHI cost of 263 stroke patients in the PAC-CVD program were analyzed. The repeated measures t test was used to compare functional performance over 0–3 w...

Empagliflozin cardiovascular and renal effectiveness and safety compared to dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors across 11 countries in Europe and Asia: Results from the EMPagliflozin compaRative effectIveness and SafEty (EMPRISE) study
Diabetes Metab. 2023 Jan 3:101418. doi: 10.1016/j.diabet.2022.101418. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Continued expansion of indications for sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors increases importance of evaluating cardiovascular and kidney efficacy and safety of empagliflozin in patients with type 2 diabetes compared to similar therapies.METHODS: The EMPRISE Europe and Asia study is a non-interventional cohort study using data from 2014-2019 in seven European (Denmark, Finland, Germany, Norway, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom) and four Asian (Israel, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan) countries. Patients with type 2 d...

Rasch Analysis of the Stroke Impact Scale-16
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: Results partially support the validity and clinical use of the SIS-16 in subacute stroke clinical settings. Further research is warranted to examine the psychometric properties of the SIS-16 in patients with chronic stroke. What This Article Adds: Our results partially support the use of the SIS-16 in clinical and research settings.PMID:36548001 | DOI:10.5014/ajot.2022.049335
