Effect of Vitamin D Supplementation on the Prognosis of Post-stroke Fatigue: A Retrospective Cohort Study
Conclusions: Our results indicated that vitamin D supplementation could improve fatigue symptoms and neurological outcomes in PSF patients with vitamin D deficiency. Subject to replication in other settings, a randomized controlled trial (RCT) might be undertaken to validate the potential beneficial impact of vitamin D supplementation in post-stroke patients found to be vitamin D deficient.

Nuclear receptors of NR1 and NR4 subfamilies in the regulation of microglial functions and pathology
Nuclear receptors of NR1 (VDR, RARs, PPARs, and LXRs) and NR4 (Nur77 and Nurr1) subfamilies inhibit the production of pro-inflammatory factors from microglia. Some of them also promote the production of anti-inflammatory cytokines and enhance the phagocytic activity of microglia. AbstractThis review provides an overview of researches on the NR1 and NR4 nuclear receptors involved in the regulation of microglial functions. Nuclear receptors are attractive candidates for drug targets in the therapies of the central nervous system disorders, because the activation of these receptors is expected to regulate the functions and th...

Stroke-like lesions in mitochondrial disease may resemble ischemic stroke
J Family Med Prim Care. 2021 Aug;10(8):3151-3153. doi: 10.4103/jfmpc.jfmpc_2314_20. Epub 2021 Aug 27.ABSTRACTThe patient is a 73-y-male who was referred after a fall without losing consciousness or secessus. Clinical exam revealed disorientation, ophthalmoparesis, hemianopia to the left, left hemineglect, hypoacusis, quadruparesis, general wasting, generally reduced tendon reflexes, mild rigor, occasional myoclonic jerks of the right lower limb, and ataxia of the left lower limb. Cerebral magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a stroke-like lesion (SLL), generalized atrophy, white matter lesions, and ponsgliosis. The prev...

Independent and Combined Effects of Calcium and Vitamin D Supplementation on Blood Lipids in Overweight or Obese Premenopausal Women: A Triple ‑Blind Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial
Conclusions: Although the results were not significantly different among the four treated groups at 8 weeks, within ‑group changes like the reduction in triglyceride and LDL levels, respectively in the Ca group and Ca + Vit D group, and HDL levels in both the Ca and Ca + Vit D groups were significant. These changes may have potentially significant public health implications.

Neurosteroids: a novel promise for the treatment of stroke and post ‐stroke complications
AbstractStroke is the primary reason for death and disability worldwide, with few treatment strategies to date. Neurosteroids, which are natural molecules in the brain, have aroused great interest in the field of stroke. Neurosteroids are a kind of steroid that acts on the nervous system, and are synthesized in the mitochondria of neurons or glial cells using cholesterol or other steroidal precursors. Neurosteroids mainly include estrogen, progesterone (PROG), allopregnanolone, dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), and vitamin D (VD). Most of the preclinical studies have confirmed that neurosteroids can decrease the risk of strok...

Low vitamin D levels and the long ‐term functional outcome of stroke up to 5 years
ConclusionVitamin D level less than 38.4  nmol/L at admission is a potential risk biomarker for poor functional outcome at 5-year prognosis in AIS patients, which might provide new ideas for the prognostic assessment of stroke.

Nutritional Supplementation of Naturally Occurring Vitamin D to Improve Hemorrhagic Stroke Outcomes
Vitamin D deficiency, if left untreated, is associated with bone disorders, cardiovascular damage, and an increased risk of ischemic stroke. While there are various nutritional options for the natural intake of vitamin D, we hope to elucidate the potential mechanisms dietary vitamin D may play in hemorrhagic stroke pathology. This scoping review outlines findings from studies relevant to the biochemical activity of vitamin D, the impact of vitamin D deficiency on hemorrhagic stroke outcomes, and the potential benefit of nutritional vitamin D on hemorrhagic stroke outcomes. Here, we analyze the relevant factors that can lea...

Association between Vitamin D and Risk of Stroke: A PRISMA-Compliant Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Conclusions: Our analysis indicated that lower circulating level of vitamin D was associated with an elevated risk of stroke, but extra supplement of vitamin D failed to show benefit in decreasing the risk of stroke. Further research and study are also needed to show the role of vitamin D in relation to stroke.Eur Neurol

No effect of calcium and vitamin D intake on maternal blood pressure in a healthy pregnant population
Pregnancy causes physiological changes in blood pressure (BP). In patients without pre-existing hypertension, BP falls during the first half of pregnancy and rises from 34 weeks onwards [1]. Hypertensive disorders in pregnancy (HDP) complicate approximately 10% of pregnancies and are associated with adverse outcomes for both mother and foetus [2]. Women with a history of HDP are also at increased risk of developing hypertension in later life as well as ischaemic heart disease, stroke and renal disease [3].
