Endovascular treatment of acute ischemic stroke due to tandem lesions of the anterior cerebral circulation: a multicentric Italian observational study
ConclusionIn our real-life series, the EVT for TLs ’ AIS was feasible, safe and effective in improving 90-day functional outcome with acceptable morbi-mortality rates. ECAS increased the risk of SICH, independently from the antiplatelet therapy regimen.

Influence of Including Patients with Premorbid Disability in Acute Stroke Trials: The HeadPoST Experience
Conclusions: Early poststroke functional impairment that exceeded premorbid levels was associated with worse 90-day outcome, and this association increased with greater premorbid functional impairment. Yet, including premorbid impaired patients in the HeadPoST did not materially affect the subsequent treatment effect.Clinical Trial Registration: HeadPoST is registered at http://www.ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT02162017).Cerebrovasc Dis

Early apixaban therapy after ischemic stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation
ConclusionsSymptomatic HT rates are likely to be low in randomized trials of DOAC initiation post-stroke. Recurrent ischemic stroke may be the major clinical outcome. These data may be used as expected event rates when calculating sample size requirements for future safety/efficacy trials of early versus late DOAC initiation after AF-related stroke.

Hyper-acute EEG alterations predict functional and morphological outcomes in thrombolysis-treated ischemic stroke: a wireless EEG study
AbstractOwing to the large inter-subject variability, early post-stroke prognosis is challenging, and objective biomarkers that can provide further prognostic information are still needed. The relation between quantitative EEG parameters in pre-thrombolysis hyper-acute phase and outcomes has still to be investigated. Hence, possible correlations between early EEG biomarkers, measured on bedside wireless EEG, and short-term/long-term functional and morphological outcomes were investigated in thrombolysis-treated strokes. EEG with a wireless device was performed in 20 patients with hyper-acute (<  4.5 h from onset) ant...

Inter-hospital transfer for mechanical thrombectomy within the supraregional stroke network NEVAS
ConclusionWithin a telemedicine network stroke care can successfully be organized as only a minority of patients has to be transferred. Our data provide clinical evidence that all MT-eligible patients should be shipped with the fastest transportation modality as possible.

Relationship between ischemic stroke locations, etiology subtypes, neurological outcomes, and autonomic cardiac function.
CONCLUSIONS: HRV measured after admission is related to the AIS infarction basin, TOAST subtypes, and neurological outcomes at discharge suggesting a possible role for HRV in evaluating AIS and identifying high-risk patients. PMID: 32701421 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Use of intracranial stent as rescue therapy after mechanical thrombectomy failure —9-year experience in a comprehensive stroke centre
ConclusionPlacement of an intracranial stent as rescue therapy after MT failure was associated with better clinical outcome without significant increase in haemorrhagic complications. We believe that this procedure should be appraised in these patients.

Mechanical Thrombectomy in Acute Ischemic Stroke Using a  Manually Expandable Stent Retriever (Tigertriever) : Preliminary Single Center Experience.
CONCLUSION: The Tigertriever offers a safe and effective treatment option in ischemic stroke due to LVOs with reperfusion rates and a safety profile similar to alternative devices. The Tigertriever is a promising bail-out tool in complex cases. Its role as a first line device has to be evaluated in further prospective studies. PMID: 32529306 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Untargeted metabolomics predicts the functional outcome of ischemic stroke.
CONCLUSION: Metabolomics is a potential method to explore the blood biomarkers of acute ischemic stroke. The patients with unfavorable outcomes had a lower PAF level compared to those with favorable outcomes. PMID: 32414667 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Implications of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus Carriage on Cardiac Surgical Outcomes.
CONCLUSIONS: MRSA carriers undergoing cardiac surgery are not at higher risk for mortality or SSI and can expect outcomes similar to those of non-carriers. Higher rates of postoperative MRSA infection and septicemia among carriers, although still very low, support the need for selective preoperative screening and prophylaxis when possible.
