Use and In-Hospital Outcomes of Recombinant Tissue Plasminogen Activator in Pediatric Arterial Ischemic Stroke Patients
Outcomes in pediatric stroke are poorly understood. We sought to determine trends in the use of recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA), treatment outcomes, and predictors of mortality for pediatric patients with acute ischemic stroke by using the Nationwide Inpatient Sample.

Utilization and In-Hospital Outcomes of rt-PA in Pediatric Arterial Ischemic Stroke Patients
Outcomes in pediatric stroke are poorly understood. We sought to determine trends in rt-PA utilization, treatment outcomes and predictors of mortality for pediatric patients with acute ischemic stroke using the Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS).

Early Hyperglycemia Is Associated With Poor Gross Motor Outcome in Asphyxiated Term Newborns
Conclusions: High blood glucose in the first 12 hours is associated with poor gross motor outcome in this cohort of asphyxiated term infants. Clinicians should avoid hyperglycemia in managing term infants with asphyxia.

Childhood Stroke: Results of 130 Children From a Reference Center in Central Anatolia, Turkey
Conclusion: Tuberculous meningitis is still a risk factor for arterial ischemic stroke in Turkey. Arterial ischemic stroke in the first year of life and recurrent arterial ischemic stroke represent poor prognostic features.

Post-Varicella Angiopathy: A Series of 4 Patients With Focus on Virologic and Neuroimaging Findings
Conclusions: Systematic search for virologic markers in cerebrospinal fluid will contribute to the understanding of the pathogenesis of idiopathic childhood stroke and can be considered as a prerequisite for the development of clear diagnostic criteria and relevant treatment strategies for post-varicella angiopathy. The role of antiviral and immunosuppressive medication needs to be clarified.

Mitochondrial Encephalopathy With Lactic Acidosis and Stroke-like Episodes (MELAS) May Respond to Adjunctive Ketogenic Diet
Conclusions: The ketogenic diet may lead to improvement of mitochondrial dysfunction in MELAS, which in turn may promote better seizure control and less frequent stroke-like episodes.

Stroke in Children With Cancer: The Tip of the Iceberg?
We read with great interest the article by Noje et al. in which they analyzed the incidence and characteristics of stroke in children with cancer. Among a population of 1411 children with cancer, during a 10-year period registry, 15 children had stroke, corresponding to an overall prevalence of 1%. A slightly increased prevalence of stroke in children with brain tumors was documented (1.3%). The occurrence of stroke in children with brain tumors is potentiated by cranial radiation therapy. We are currently following a cohort of 103 adult survivors of childhood primary central nervous system tumors in our neurooncology c...
