A retrospective study of arterial stiffness and subsequent clinical outcomes in cancer patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention
Conclusion: Atherosclerosis is advanced and accelerated in patients with malignancy, and these patients had significantly higher rates of adverse cardiovascular events, and their risk might be stratified by ABI and baPWV. Carotid intima–media thickness, but not chronic kidney disease independently associates with noncardiac arterial vascular events in South Africa

Change in left ventricular geometry over 10 years in the elderly and risk of incident cardiovascular disease

Metformin use in type 2 diabetic patients is not associated with lower arterial stiffness: the Maastricht Study
Conclusion: We showed that there is no significant association between current metformin use and aortic stiffness, regardless of how metformin use in itself was defined. In addition, metformin use was not associated with a lower carotid stiffness. The present results showed no beneficial effect of metformin use, dosage or duration on arterial stiffness in middle-aged patients with T2D. Alternatively, metformin may exerts its cardio-protective effects via other pathways.

Effects of blood pressure lowering on cardiovascular events, in the context of regression to the mean: a systematic review of randomized trials
Conclusion: Clinical practice should focus less on pretreatment BP levels, which rarely predict future untreated BP levels or rule out capacity to benefit from BP lowering in high cardiovascular risk patients. Instead, focus should be on prompt, empirical treatment to maintain lower BP for those with high BP and/or high risk.

Impaired cardiorespiratory coupling in young normotensives with a family history of hypertension
Conclusion: Healthy offspring of hypertensive parents have lower CRPS at rest, indicating an early impairment of cardiorespiratory coupling. Furthermore, CRPS decreased under mental stress in participants without a family history of hypertension, whereas this reactivity of CRPS was absent in participants with a family history of hypertension.

European Society of Hypertension position paper on renal denervation 2018
This ESH update was deemed necessary with the publication of new results of sham-controlled randomized blinded prospective trials with renal denervation (RDN). Proof of concept studies and first randomized trials (some were sham-controlled) displayed discrepant results about the efficacy of RDN. Four ECG left ventricular hypertrophy criteria and the risk of cardiovascular events and mortality in patients with vascular disease
Conclusion: All four ECG-LVH criteria are associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular events. As Cornell/strain index is both highly prevalent and carries a high cardiovascular risk, this is likely the most relevant ECG-LVH criterion for clinical practice.
