Comparative effects of intensive-blood pressure versus standard-blood pressure-lowering treatment in patients with severe ischemic stroke in the ENCHANTED trial
Conclusion: Intensive BP lowering is associated with increased mortality in patients with severe AIS despite lowering the risk of ICH. Further randomized trials are required to provide reliable evidence over the optimum SBP target in the most serious type of AIS. Trial registration: ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT01422616.

Office, central and ambulatory blood pressure for predicting incident atrial fibrillation in older adults
Conclusion: In a predominantly older, stroke-free community-based cohort, ABP was a better independent predictor of incident atrial fibrillation than central BP, whereas office BP was inadequate for this purpose.

Effects of vascular compression on the rostral ventrolateral medulla for blood pressure variability in stroke patients
Conclusion: Although RVLM compression was closely associated with BP variability in the subacute ischemic stroke phase, an effect of RVLM compression on stroke outcome was not observed.

Creatinine increase following initiation of antihypertensives is associated with cardiovascular risk: a nationwide cohort study
Conclusion: In primary care, patients initiating first-line antihypertensive treatment, an increase in plasma creatinine above 30% was associated with increased absolute 6-month risk of cardiovascular event.

Positive relationship of hypertensive retinopathy with carotid intima--media thickness in hypertensive patients

What is the optimal blood pressure level for patients with atrial fibrillation treated with direct oral anticoagulants?
Conclusion: SBP values below 161 mmHg are associated higher all-cause mortality, but lower event risk in patients with atrial fibrillation on DOAC therapy. The nadir SBP for lowest event rate was 120 mmHg, for lowest cardiovascular mortality was 130 mmHg and for lowest all-cause mortality was 160 mmHg. This demonstrates a need for a prospective interventional study of BP control after initiation of anticoagulation.

Effects of dapagliflozin and gliclazide on the cardiorenal axis in people with type 2 diabetes

Ambulatory blood pressure variability and risk of cardiovascular events, all-cause mortality, and progression of kidney disease

Beta-blockers in hypertension: overview and meta-analysis of randomized outcome trials
Conclusion: Compared with other antihypertensive agents, beta-blockers appear to be substantially less protective against stroke and overall mortality. However, they exhibit a substantial risk-reducing ability for all events when prescribed to lower BP in patients with modest or more clear BP elevations, and therefore can be used as additional agents in hypertensive patients.
