Prediction of long-term outcomes by arterial stiffness and pressure wave reflections in patients with acute stroke: the Athens Stroke Registry

Predictive power of 24-h ambulatory pulse pressure and its components for mortality and cardiovascular outcomes in 11 848 participants recruited from 13 populations
Conclusion: This study provides a new basis for associating PP components with outcome and arterial properties in different age groups and at different pulse rates for both old and young age. The similarity between adjusted and unadjusted hazard ratios supports the clinical usefulness of PP components but further studies are needed to assess the prognostic significance of the PP components, especially at the young age.

Hypertension, remnant cholesterol and cardiovascular disease: evidence from the China health and retirement longitudinal study
Conclusion: Our study indicated that there was a combined effect of hypertension and RC on the risk of CVD, stroke and cardiac events. Larger-sample prospective cohort studies are still required to test the potential application of combination of hypertension and RC as a screening method to identify individuals at risk of CVD.

Changes in blood pressure and cardiovascular disease in middle-aged to older Chinese: the Guangzhou Biobank Cohort Study
Conclusion: Most people between 50 and 70 years of age and not taking antihypertensive medication maintained a slow increase SBP trajectory over a follow-up period of approximately 7 years. However, those whose SBPs increased from low and moderate levels were associated with higher CVD risks.

Mineralocorticoid receptor antagonism improves transient receptor potential vanilloid 4-dependent dilation of cerebral parenchymal arterioles and cognition in a genetic model of hypertension
Conclusions: These data advance our understanding of the effects of hypertension on cerebral arterioles using a clinically relevant model and treatment paradigm. Our studies suggest TRPV4 and the MR are potential therapeutic targets to improve cerebrovascular function and cognition during hypertension.

Prevalence and associated factors of obstructive sleep apnea in refractory hypertension
Conclusion: In this large RHT cohort, resistant and refractory hypertensive patients have similar OSA prevalence, although refractory ones, which by definition use spironolactone, are younger and apparently have a better sleep pattern.

Nebivolol and incident cardiovascular events in hypertensive patients compared with nonvasodilatory beta blockers
Conclusion: The vasodilatory beta blocker nebivolol was associated with reduced incident cardiovascular events compared with nonvasodilatory beta blockers. Retinal microvascular abnormalities and risks of incident stroke and its subtypes: The Circulatory Risk in Communities Study
Conclusion: Retinal microvascular abnormalities were positively associated with the risk of incident stroke in the general Japanese population. Routine retinal photography could provide positive clinical insights into stroke risk stratification independent of blood pressure, antihypertensive medication use, and other risk factors.
