Fenofibrate attenuates cardiac and renal alterations in young salt-loaded spontaneously hypertensive stroke-prone rats through mitochondrial protection
Conclusion: The results suggest that the cardiorenal protective effects of fenofibrate in young male salt-loaded SHRSPs are explained by its capacity to preserve mitochondrial function.

Gender, blood pressure, and cardiovascular and renal outcomes in adults with hypertension from the Systolic Blood Pressure Intervention Trial
Conclusion: In adults with hypertension but not with diabetes, treatment to a systolic blood pressure goal of less than 120 mmHg, compared with a goal of less than 140 mmHg, resulted in no heterogeneity of effect between men and women on cardiovascular or renal outcomes, or on rates of serious adverse events. Brachial–ankle pulse wave velocity compared with mean arterial pressure and pulse pressure in risk stratification in a Chinese population
Conclusion: With fatal and nonfatal cardiovascular and cerebrovascular endpoints as outcome, baPWV marginally increases risk stratification over and beyond MAP, but is a better predictor than PP. A threshold of 16.7 m/s might be used in Chinese populations.

The predictive role of CHA2DS2–VASc score between venous thromboembolism and ischemic stroke: a large-scale cohort study
Conclusion: Our study is the first to concern the performance of CHA2DS2–VASc score in predicting the risk of ischemic stroke in VTE patients and the risk of VTE in ischemic stroke patients. Nevertheless, the performance of the score was modest, and the transportability of the score in these populations still needs to be defined.

Cardiovascular risk and blood pressure lowering treatment among elderly individuals: Evidence for Cardiovascular Prevention from Observational Cohorts in Japan
Conclusion: Although impact on BP was more evident among young-old than old-old individuals, clinicians who prescribe antihypertensive medication to elderly patients should consider that such patients require further monitoring.

Risk of stroke and coronary heart disease among various levels of blood pressure in diabetic and nondiabetic Chinese patients
Conclusion: HTN was associated with a two-fold increased risk of CHD and a three-fold increased risk of stroke compared with normotension irrespective of diabetes status. For diabetic patients with HTN, a more comprehensive method is essential for assessing cardiovascular risk.

Apparent resistant hypertension and the risk of vascular events and mortality in patients with manifest vascular disease
Conclusion: In hypertensive patients with clinically manifest vascular disease, presence of controlled and uncontrolled aRH is related to an increased risk of cardiovascular mortality and all-cause mortality.

Home blood pressure predicts stroke incidence among older adults with impaired physical function: the Ohasama study
Conclusion: Higher home BP was associated with increased risk of stroke even among those with impaired physical function. Measurements of home BP would be useful for stroke prevention, even after physical function decline.
