Therapeutic patient education and post-stroke cognitive-behavioral disorders: Inputs for patients, caregivers and professionals in rehabilitation units
Discussion – conclusion Participation and satisfaction rates for patients and caregivers show that TEP has met their expectations. A clear positioning is defined for the caregiver, target of TEP on CBD. Measured burden is low, but Zarit scale may reduce the objective component of burden. Awareness of CBD and decrease in anosognosia may explain the lack of improvement in the quality of life measured by EuroQol. TEP approach has changed professionals practice through their positioning in the patient-professional and caregiver-professional relationship and their collaboration between professionals. Our ultimate goal is to w...

Developing a data sharing community for spinal cord injury research.
Abstract The rapid growth in data sharing presents new opportunities across the spectrum of biomedical research. Global efforts are underway to develop practical guidance for implementation of data sharing and open data resources. These include the recent recommendation of 'FAIR Data Principles', which assert that if data is to have broad scientific value, then digital representations of that data should be Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (FAIR). The spinal cord injury (SCI) research field has a long history of collaborative initiatives that include sharing of preclinical research models and outco...

Whole dairy matrix or single nutrients in assessment of health effects: current evidence and knowledge gaps Perspective
In conclusion, the nutritional values of dairy products should not be considered equivalent to their nutrient contents but, rather, be considered on the basis of the biofunctionality of the nutrients within dairy food structures. 6) Further research on the health effects of whole dairy foods is warranted alongside the more traditional approach of studying the health effects of single nutrients. Future diet assessments and recommendations should carefully consider the evidence of the effects of whole foods alongside the evidence of the effects of individual nutrients. Current knowledge gaps and recommendations for prioritie...

(376) Impact of the Harborview Chronic Pain Self-Management Program on participants ’ quality of life, confidence and pain experience
The Chronic Pain Self-Management Program (CPSMP) is as an evidenced-based model that helps sufferers of chronic pain conditions learn how to better manage their pain symptoms and overall health status. The CPSMP involves a six-week long workshop that is designed for adults with chronic pain conditions to work together and build off of each other ’s strengths and knowledge regarding pain management. The program is adapted from the well-researched Chronic Disease Self-Management Program developed at Stanford that followed more than 1000 people with heart disease, lung disease, stroke or arthritis in a three-year randomized...

Saturated Fat Consumption and Risk of Coronary Heart Disease and Ischemic Stroke: A Science Update
At a workshop to update the science linking saturated fatty acid (SAFA) consumption with the risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) and ischemic stroke, invited participants presented data on the consumption and bioavailability of SAFA and their functions in the body and food technology. Epidemiological methods and outcomes were related to the association between SAFA consumption and disease events and mortality. Participants reviewed the effects of SAFA on CHD, causal risk factors, and surrogate risk markers. Higher intakes of SAFA were not associated with higher risks of CHD or stroke apparently, but studies did not take m...

Harnessing Neuroimaging Capability in Pediatric Stroke: Proceedings of the Stroke Imaging Laboratory for Children (SILC) Workshop
On June 5th, 2015 the International Pediatric Stroke Study and the Stroke Imaging Laboratory for Children (SILC) co-hosted a unique workshop focused on developing neuroimaging research in pediatric stroke. Pediatric neurologists, neuroradiologists, interventional neuroradiologists, physicists, nurse practitioners, neuropsychologists and imaging research scientists from around the world attended this one-day meeting. Our objectives were to: i) establish a group of experts to collaborate in advancing pediatric neuroimaging for stroke, ii) develop consensus clinical and research MRI protocols for pediatric stroke patients, an...
