The impact of parental risk factors on the risk of stroke in type 1 diabetes
ConclusionA history of maternal stroke increases the risk of hemorrhagic stroke in individuals with type 1 diabetes. Other parental risk factors seem to have limited impact on the risk of stroke.

Patients with rheumatoid arthritis have impaired long-term outcomes after myocardial infarction: a nationwide case-control registry study
ConclusionRA is independently associated with poorer prognosis after MI. RA duration and corticosteroid usage and dosage were independent predictors of mortality after MI in RA. Special attention is needed for improvement of outcomes after MI in this vulnerable population.

Sex-based outcomes after coronary artery bypass grafting.
CONCLUSIONS: Sex was not an independent predictor of long-term MACE after CABG in this population-based cohort study. Men had however higher long-term all-cause mortality and women higher risk of myocardial infarction. Long-term outcomes should be accounted for when considering sex as a risk factor for CABG. Relationship between SDB and short ‐term outcome in Finnish ischemic stroke patients
ConclusionIschemic stroke patients with OSA have higher disability, higher need of rehabilitation, and longer hospitalization length. Prescreening tools for recognizing these stroke patients in acute phase could be valuable. That could result in earlier initiation of treatment and might prevent worse recovery from stroke.

Systemic vascular resistance predicts the development of hypertension: the cardiovascular risk in young Finns study.
Conclusions: These findings suggest that systemic vascular resistance index predicts the incidence of hypertension in young adults and that the evaluation of systemic hemodynamics could provide an additional tool for hypertension risk prediction. PMID: 32597238 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Commentary: Postpericardial syndrome after cardiac surgery: Is it really benign?
Lehto and colleagues1 report on the long-term outcomes of postpericardiotomy syndrome (PPS) occurring after aortic valve replacement (AVR) surgery. The patient cohort was drawn from 2 large Finnish multi-institutional clinical trial databases, namely CAREAVR (Consortium of Studies in the Field of Atrial Fibrillation, Stroke, and Bleeding in Patients Undergoing Aortic Valve Replacement) and CAREBANK (Cardiovascular Research Consortium---A Prospective Project to Identify Biomarkers of Morbidity and Mortality in Cardiovascular Interventional Patients),1 in which a total of 671 AVR patients (bioprosthesis, n  = 361 and mecha...

The prevalence and prognostic significance of interatrial block in the general population.
Discussion IAB is a rather frequent finding in the general population. IAB is a risk factor for AF and is associated with an increased risk of stroke or TIA independently of associated AF. Key messagesBoth partial and advanced interatrial block are associated with increased risk of atrial fibrillation in the general population.Advanced interatrial block is an independent risk factor for stroke and transient ischemic attack. The clinical significance of interatrial block is dependent on the subtype classification.
