Pre-eclampsia and cardiovascular risk: a long-term nationwide cohort study on over 120 000 Finnish women
Conclusion Pre-eclampsia-related significant elevations in CVD risks of Finnish women with inherently high risk for these diseases were of the same magnitude as reported previously from other countries. Thus, women with a history of pre-eclampsia should be screened and treated early for modifiable cardiovascular risk factors.

Carotid and femoral bruits as cardiovascular risk indicators in a middle-aged Finnish population: A 20-year prospective study
by Karri Parkkila, Antti Kiviniemi, Mikko Tulppo, Juha Perki ömäki, Y. Antero Kesäniemi, Olavi Ukkola BackgroundEffective treatment and prevention of cardiovascular (CV) diseases requires reliable methods of assessing individual CV event risk. Although standardized risk calculators like Systematic Coronary Risk Evaluation (SCORE) are sufficient in most instances, sometimes more specific clinical examination is needed to determine the most optimal intervention and its intensity. AimTo study whether carotid and femoral bruits provide prognostic information on CV events, CV mortality and all-cause mortality beyond traditio...

People with aphasia and their family members proposing joint future activities in everyday conversations: A conversation analytic study
CONCLUSIONS & IMPLICATIONS: Mild aphasia appears not to impede PWAs' ability to participate in the planning of joint future activities, whereas severe aphasia is a potential limitation. To address this possible participatory barrier, we discuss clinical implications for both therapist-led aphasia treatment and conversation partner training.WHAT THIS PAPER ADDS: What is already known on the subject PWAs use multimodal resources to compensate for their language impairment in everyday conversations. However, certain social actions, such as proposing a joint future activity, cannot ordinarily be accomplished without language. ...

Lost individual income due to severe health events: life-course perspective in the Northern Finland Birth Cohort 1966
CONCLUSIONS: Stroke and heart attack but not cancer have exogenous deleterious effects on individual economy, independently of early-life factors. The effects accelerate by time. Negative income trend in control men shows that severe health events do not explain all decrease in income.PMID:36040214 | DOI:10.1093/eurpub/ckac110

O-003 CLEVER: clinical evaluation of WEB 17 device in intracranial aneurysms. safety results for ruptured and unruptured aneurysm at 30 days
ConclusionThese results show good safety profile at 1 month, with low rate of neurological or neurovascular event with permanent deficit and no mortality at 30 days. These data confirm the safety of WEB use in intracranial aneurysm treatment, unruptured as well as ruptured, and are consistent with the results published up to date.Disclosures L. Early statin use and cardiovascular outcomes after myocardial infarction: A population-based case-control study
CONCLUSIONS: Lack of statin therapy early after MI is associated with adverse outcomes across the spectrum of MI patients. Results underline the importance of timely statin use after MI.PMID:35803064 | DOI:10.1016/j.atherosclerosis.2022.06.1019

Income and outcomes of patients with incident atrial fibrillation
Conclusions Personal annual income has a significant impact on the incidence of first-ever ischaemic stroke and overall mortality among patients with incident AF, particularly among patients of working age. Low-income indicate the need for intervention strategies to improve outcomes of AF. Trial registration number NCT04645537.

Finnish flow diverter study: 8 years of experience in the treatment of acutely ruptured intracranial aneurysms
Conclusions FD treatment yields high occlusion for acutely ruptured IAs but is associated with a high risk of complications. Considering the high mortality rate of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, the prevention of rebleeding is crucial. Thus, FD treatment may be justified as a last resort option.

Long-term outcomes of mechanical versus biological valve prosthesis in native mitral valve infective endocarditis
Conclusion. The use of mechanical mitral valve prosthesis is associated with lower long-term mortality compared to the biological prosthesis in non-elder native mitral valve infective endocarditis patients. The routine choice of biological mitral valve prostheses for this patient group is not supported by the results.PMID:35652503 | DOI:10.1080/14017431.2022.2079712
