Uncertainty of Acute Stroke Patients: A Cross-sectional Descriptive and Correlational Study
Conclusion: Patients experienced persistently, moderately high uncertainty in the acute phase of stroke. Ameliorating uncertainty should be an integral part of the rehabilitation program. Better understanding of uncertainty and its associated characteristics may help nurses identify patients at the highest risk who may benefit from targeted interventions.

Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease in South Asians in the United States: Epidemiology, Risk Factors, and Treatments: A Scientific Statement From the American Heart Association.
cial Populations Committee of the Council on Clinical Cardiology; Council on Cardiovascular and Stroke Nursing; Council on Quality of Care and Outcomes Research; and Stroke Council Abstract South Asians (from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka) make up one quarter of the world's population and are one of the fastest-growing ethnic groups in the United States. Although native South Asians share genetic and cultural risk factors with South Asians abroad, South Asians in the United States can differ in socioeconomic status, education, healthcare behaviors, attitudes, and health in...

Crossed aphasia following cerebral infarction in a right-handed patient with atypical cerebral language dominance
ConclusionThe findings suggest that the patient has right-sided cerebral language dominance, or that both hemispheres have linguistic functions. Not all patients show linguistic capabilities on the side opposite hand preference. The language dominance should be predicted by a combination of clinical manifestations and functional imaging techniques.

Aerobic exercise interventions reduce blood pressure in patients after stroke or transient ischaemic attack: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Abstract OBJECTIVE: Secondary vascular risk reduction is critical to preventing recurrent stroke. We aimed to evaluate the effect of exercise interventions on vascular risk factors and recurrent ischaemic events after stroke or transient ischaemic attack (TIA). DESIGN: Intervention systematic review and meta-analysis. DATA SOURCES: OVID MEDLINE, PubMed, The Cochrane Library, Web of Science, The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, TRIP Database, CINAHL, PsycINFO, SCOPUS, UK Clinical Trials Gateway and the China National Knowledge Infrastructure were searched from 1966 to October 2017. ...

Associations between short-term exposure to ambient sulfur dioxide and increased cause-specific mortality in 272 Chinese cities.
CONCLUSIONS: This nationwide study demonstrated associations of daily SO2 concentrations with increased total and cardiorespiratory mortality, but the associations might not be independent from NO2. PMID: 29715611 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Vulnerability to the impact of temperature variability on mortality in 31 major Chinese cities.
This study demonstrated that TV had considerable health effects. An early warning system to alert residents about large temperature variations is recommended, which may have a significant impact on the community awareness and public health. PMID: 29709834 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Related factors of cognitive impairment in community-dwelling older adults in Beijing Longitudinal Study of Aging.
CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of cognitive impairment among the older adults in Beijing was high. More attention should be paid to the identification of and intervention for factors influencing cognitive impairment, and health education should be carried out to improve the quality of life of the older adults. Diurnal temperature range in relation to death from stroke in China.
CONCLUSIONS: DTR has considerable effects on risk of mortality from stroke in various cities in China, especially among the elderly, females, those with low educational level, and people living in southern China. The results can inform decisions on developing programs to protect vulnerable subpopulations from adverse impacts of DTR. PMID: 29631226 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Abstract 209: Education Level and Long-Term Outcomes After Acute Myocardial Infarction: The China PEACE Prospective AMI Study Session Title: Poster Session PM
Conclusions: In a national Chinese cohort of patients hospitalized with AMI, lower educational attainment was associated with a higher risk of adverse events in the year following discharge. This association highlights the need to explore mechanisms underlying this relationship, and to consider interventions for adults with lower levels of education.

Learning to write: The role of handwriting for Chinese spelling in kindergarten children.
Given the orthographic complexities of Chinese characters, handwriting skills may play an important role in how children learn to write Chinese. The present study includes a comprehensive battery of handwriting measures in relation to Chinese spelling in young children. Measures of handwriting, including stroke order, visual-motor integration (Hebrew and Vietnamese copying) and handwriting fluency, along with other reading-related cognitive skills, were administered to 141 kindergartners in Hong Kong schools. We assessed the extent to which these handwriting measures are associated with spelling. A series of regression ana...

Factors Associated with Chronic Kidney Disease and Their Clinical Utility in Primary Care Clinics in a Multi-Ethnic Southeast Asian Population
Conclusions: CKD prevalence in our Southeast Asian population is high and under-documented even in high-risk patients. Our findings highlight factors associated with CKD, and the predictive value of hypertension, diabetes, and advancing age as EHR-based screening targets for CKD. Our results also suggest that complementary educational efforts will be needed to increase physician detection and optimize the management of CKD, especially in high risk and marginalized groups across all clinics in Singapore, and possibly in the region.Nephron

Chinese neurologists ’ perspective on intravenous thrombolysis for acute ischemic stroke
ConclusionsMost neurologists in Hubei Province, China, identified with intravenous thrombolysis for the treatment of acute ischemic stroke. However, they were weak in knowledge and lack confidence. Therefore, training, especially practical training, is needed to promote the use of thrombolysis in the region. Our data showed that most neurologists in Hubei Province, China, identified with the IV thrombolysis for the treatment of AIS. However, they were weak in knowledge and lacked confidence in using the treatment. Therefore, stepping‐up training and attaching importance to improvement in practical skills are important...
