Incidence and risk factors for nasoenteral tube-related mechanical complications in a double cohort
CONCLUSION: traction or removal and obstruction of the device were frequent. A history of stroke, higher score on the Glasgow Coma Scale, and older age were risk factors for traction, whereas obstruction was more common in patients who already had the tube on at admission to the nursing ward, and who had opioids in the form of pills administered via the tube.PMID:35227066 | DOI:10.20960/nh.03877

Does dual task merged in a mixed physical exercise protocol impact the mobility under dual task conditions in mild impaired stroke survivors? A feasibility, safety, randomized, and controlled pilot trial
CONCLUSION: The results indicate that mixed physical exercise under DT is feasible and safe for mild-impaired stroke survivors. Stroke survivors demonstrate more significant improvement in the mobility performance under DT when submitted to a DT mixed physical exercise protocol than the standard physical exercise intervention.TRIAL REGISTRATION: Brazilian clinical trials registry (RBR-4mvzz6); WHO trial record (U1111-1198-7173)IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONDT training can be prescribed by using clear and precise parameters for stroke survivors.Physical Exercise without DT requirements did not improve mobility performing a...

Aging in a rural area in southern Brazil: designing a prospective cohort study
CONCLUSION: With a reasonable follow-up rate, it was possible to transform a cross-sectional study into a prospective cohort study. However, new strategies will be needed to help locate participants more successfully and ensure a good response rate in future follow-ups.PMID:35192773 | DOI:10.22605/RRH6591

Social distancing, stroke admissions and stroke mortality during the COVID-19 pandemic: a multicenter, longitudinal study
Objectives. We aimed to evaluate the relationship between social distancing, stroke admissions and stroke mortality during the COVID-19 pandemic, while accounting for the rate of COVID-19 admissions. Methods. We performed a longitudinal analysis of a multicenter, prospective, hospital-based registry of intensive care units from 19 hospitals from Brazil, comprising a 14-month period of the COVID-19 pandemic. We investigated whether the daily rate of admissions (DRAstroke) and daily mortality rate for stroke were associated with the social distancing index (SDI), taking into account the daily rate of admissions for COVID-19 ...

Rationale and design of the Brazilian Diabetes Study: a prospective cohort of type 2 diabetes
CONCLUSION: The BDS will be the first large population-based cohort dedicated to the identification of clinical phenotypes of T2D at higher risk of cardiovascular events. Data derived from this study will provide valuable information on risk estimation and prevention of cardiovascular and other diabetes-related events.PMID:35174749 | DOI:10.1080/03007995.2022.2043658

Stroke Hospital Admissions during the COVID-19 Outbreak in S ão Paulo, Brazil
Conclusion: We argue for policies aimed at improving stroke care and developing awareness campaigns regarding the importance of early diagnosis and treatment, as even in less severe presentations, stroke can trigger an increase in mortality, cost, and long-term disability.Cerebrovasc Dis

Acute ischemic stroke and COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil: a comparative study of frequency and risk factors before and during SARS-CoV-2 era
ConclusionsHospital admissions for AIS decreased in the COVID-19 pandemic, mostly during months of higher incidences of new COVID-19 cases. When the incidence of admissions diminished, an increase in the severity of AIS was observed, characterized by larger areas. These findings might contribute to other similar referral centers in managing public policies related to stroke.
