Neuropsychological rehabilitation, neuroimaging and neuroplasticity: A  clinical commentary
NeuroRehabilitation. 2021 Aug 13. doi: 10.3233/NRE-218024. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTInitial brain imaging studies on recovery of motor functioning after stroke suggested their potential prognostic value in neurorehabilitation. However, the value of brain imaging in documenting brain changes associated with cognitive and behavioral treatment effects seem less likely. Also, neuroimaging studies at that time seem to have little, if any, value for treatment planning. Advances in neuroimaging technology are beginning to challenge these initial impressions. In this clinical commentary, we propose that advances in the field ...

Cardiovascular Pharmacogenomics: An Update on Clinical Studies of Antithrombotic Drugs in Brazilian Patients
AbstractAnticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs effectively prevent thrombotic events in patients with cardiovascular diseases, ischemic stroke, peripheral vascular diseases, and other thromboembolic diseases. However, genetic and non-genetic factors affect the response to antithrombotic therapy and can increase the risk of adverse events. This narrative review discusses pharmacogenomic studies on antithrombotic drugs commonly prescribed in Brazil. Multiple Brazilian studies assessed the impact of pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) gene variants on warfarin response. The reduced function allelesCYP2C9*2 andCYP2C9*3...

Reliability of the Theory of Mind Task Battery (ToM TB) to assess social cognition in post-stroke patients
Top Stroke Rehabil. 2021 Aug 1:1-8. doi: 10.1080/10749357.2021.1948155. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTheory of mind is the ability to understand, and infer thoughts or mental states to others. This is a central domain of social cognition that can be impaired after brain injury, resulting in changes in social skills and implications for rehabilitation. The aim of this investigation was to analyze the reliability of the Theory of Mind Task Battery (ToM TB) in post-stroke patients. This is a cross-sectional prospective study with psychometric characteristics, involving 38 patients diagnosed with ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke ...

Test-retest reliability and measurement error of the modified gait efficacy scale in individuals with stroke
CONCLUSION: The mGES-Brazil demonstrated to be reliable to be applied within clinical and research contexts for the assessment of changes in walking confidence of individuals who have had stroke. Changes in mGES scores ≥8 points reflect real changes.PMID:34294003 | DOI:10.1080/09593985.2021.1952669

Pressure wounds in a cohort of critical patients: incidence and associated factors
CONCLUSION: Pressure wounds were incident. Braden <13 points, history of previous strokes, being elderly, and time in nothing by mouth were shown to be independent risk factors for pressure wounds. The days of exposure to physical therapy were protective. These findings corroborate recommendations to monitor the frequency of pressure wounds and to establish protective measures based on local indicators.PMID:34287594 | DOI:10.1590/1983-1447.2021.20200001
