Exploring Mechanisms of Houshiheisan in Treating Ischemic Stroke with Network Pharmacology and Independent Cascade Model
CONCLUSION: This study advocated potential drug development with targets in the AGE signaling pathway, with emphasis on neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, and anti-apoptotic functions. The molecular docking simulation indicated that the ligand-target combination selection method based on the IC model was effective and reliable.PMID:37565556 | DOI:10.2174/1386207326666230810094557

Interventions for the uptake of evidence-based recommendations in acute stroke settings
CONCLUSIONS: We are uncertain whether a multifaceted implementation intervention compared to no intervention improves adherence to evidence-based recommendations in acute stroke settings, because the certainty of evidence is very low.PMID:37565934 | PMC:PMC10416310 | DOI:10.1002/14651858.CD012520.pub2

The Polyherbal Functional Ingredient Containing Ginger, Chinese Date, and Wood Ear Mushroom Protects against Dementia following Metabolic Syndrome
This study was performed to test this hypothesis and to explore the underlying mechanism. Male Wistar rats weighing 180-220 g were induced metabolic syndrome (MetS) with a 16-week high-carbohydrate high-fat diet (HCHF) feeding. The rats with MetS characteristics were orally administered GCJ at various doses (GCJ100, GCJ200, and GCJ300 mg kg-1 BW) 21 days pre-induction and 21 days post-induction of reperfusion injury (I/R) at the right middle cerebral artery (MCAO). Memory was evaluated every 7 days during the study period. At the end of the study, neuron density, AChE activity, and the expressions of eNOS, BDNF, and pERK/E...

News at a glance: A win for obesity drugs, NIH unionization roadblocks, and Mexican fireflies under threat
CONSERVATION Researchers raise alarm over threat to Mexican fireflies Scientists from the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) last week delivered a letter to the Mexican government requesting it regulate tourism centered on the threatened firefly species Photinus palaciosi . Endemic to Mexico’s Tlaxcala forests, P. palaciosi is one of the few species that glow in synchrony, offering an annual spectacle that attracts thousands of visitors during summer mating season. The letter describes how littering, artificial light, and noise interfere with the insects’ courtship and eg...

Endovascular Treatment for Acute Ischemic Stroke in China: a study protocol for a prospective, national, multi-center, registry study
This study plans to enroll a total of 3,000 consecutive patients who received EVT for LVO. All eligible patients are adults aged 18 years or older with acute LVO who received EVT and standard medical treatment according to the Chinese stroke guidelines and local practice.OutcomeThe primary outcome is functional independence (modified Rankin Scale score, mRS ≤ 2) at 90 days. The secondary outcomes include (1) the proportion of patients with mRS scores of 0–1 at 90 days, (2) distribution of mRS at 90 days, (3) changes in National Institutes of Health stroke scale (NIHSS) at 24 h, 48 h, and 12 days or discharge (whichever...

Comparative efficacy and safety of multiple acupuncture therapies for post stroke cognitive impairment: a network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
ConclusionAccording to our Bayesian NMA results, ophthalmic acupuncture plus cognitive training and warm acupuncture plus cognitive training were the most effective acupuncture treatments for improving cognitive function, while scalp acupuncture plus body acupuncture was the best acupuncture treatment for improving the performance of self-care in daily life in patients with PSCI. No serious adverse effects were found in the included studies, and acupuncture treatment appears to be safe and reliable. However, due to the low methodological quality of the included studies, our findings need to be treated with caution. High-qu...

The effects of Baduanjin on physical function, daily living activities and quality of life in patients with stroke: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Baduanjin is probably an effective rehabilitation method to improve balance, motor, trunk, neurological functions, daily living activities, and quality of life in stroke patients. However, the result of Baduanjin in improving walking function is unstable, and further high-quality randomized controlled trials are needed to confirm the results.PMID:37555455 | DOI:10.1080/10749357.2023.2238433
