Intracranial haemorrhage in acute myocardial infarction: A rare but dramatic complication
The shift from thrombolysis to primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and the use of multidrug antithrombotic therapy in the management of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) have led to both a substantial improvement in outcomes and a reduction in bleeding complications [1,2]. In particular, in AMI, the rate of haemorrhagic stroke, the most dreaded haemorrhagic complication, decreased by 50% from 1998 to 2008 [1]. Despite its low incidence, intracranial haemorrhage (ICH) is often devastating, being associated with severe disability and high mortality rates.

E-248 Rescue intracranial stenting for failed posterior circulation thrombectomy: analysis from saint study
ConclusionIn patients with posterior circulation occlusion stokes who failed mechanical thrombectomy, our study suggests that RS has better outcomes with comparable safety profile. The many roles of urgent catheter interventions: from myocardial infarction to acute stroke and pulmonary embolism
Expert Rev Cardiovasc Ther. 2023 Jan 27. doi: 10.1080/14779072.2023.2174101. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of cardiovascular mortality and a major contributor to disability worldwide. The prevalence of CVDs is continuously increasing, and from 1990 to 2019, it has doubled. Global cardiovascular mortality has increased from 12.1 million in 1990 to 18.6 million cases in 2019.The development of therapeutic options for these diseases is at the forefront of interest concerning the extensive socio-economic consequences. Modern endovascular transcatheter therapeut...

Immediate and Long Term Results of a Randomised Single Centre Study of Surgical Treatment of Asymptomatic Stenosis of the Internal Carotid Arteries
Introduction: Cerebrovascular accident (CVA) is one of the main causes of disability and mortality in many developed countries of the world. The results of numerous studies have confirmed the positive effect of carotid endarterectomy (CEA) in the prevention of stroke development in both symptomatic and asymptomatic patients. Balloon angioplasty (BA) and carotid artery stenting (CAS) have evolved, in part, because of the need for alternative, less invasive treatments for patients considered poor candidates for surgery based on anatomical or clinical parameters.

Frequency and predictors of diagnostic coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention related to stroke
CONCLUSIONS: Based on the large national registry, PCI ± DCA is associated with fewer risk factors and lower rate of periprocedural strokes than isolated DCA.PMID:34472076 | DOI:10.33963/KP.a2021.0100

A Retrospective Study Comparison Between Stenting and Standardized Medical Treatment for Intracranial Vertebrobasilar Stenosis in a Real-World Chinese Cohort
Conclusions: In a real-world Chinese cohort, PTAS for patients might be superior to SMT, and provide better long-term neurological function recovery and lower disability rate.

Patches of different types for carotid patch angioplasty.
CONCLUSIONS: The number of outcome events is too small to allow conclusions, and more trial data are required to establish whether any differences do exist. Nevertheless, there is little to no difference in effect on perioperative and long-term ipsilateral stroke between vein and any synthetic patch material. Some evidence indicates that other synthetic patches (e.g. PTFE) may be superior to Dacron grafts in terms of perioperative stroke and TIA rates, and both early and late arterial re-stenosis and occlusion. Pseudoaneurysm formation may be more common after use of a vein patch than after use of a synthetic patch. Bovin...

Clinical study of stent forming for symptomatic internal carotid artery stenosis
Stroke is one of the diseases that seriously threaten the survival and health of human beings. In Europe and the United States, stroke is the second leading cause of death after heart disease and tumors.[1] Stroke is also one of the fatal diseases in Asian countries. On average, about 1.5 million new stroke patients are added each year in China, and the incidence of stroke is increasing year by year. About 80% of all stroke patients are ischemic stroke, and symptomatic internal carotid atherosclerotic stenosis is another important cause of ischemic stroke. Ipsilateral carotid stenosis ≥50% increases the incidence of tran...

Clinical features and outcomes of revascularization in very old patients with left main coronary artery disease
Conclusion In very old patients undergoing coronary revascularization owing to LMCA disease, PCI was associated with worse cardiovascular outcomes compared with CABG, influenced by a more severe and comorbid population selected for PCI. Baseline disability, presentation with STEMI, and distal LMCA bifurcation disease were additional independent outcome predictors.

Effect of Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors on Cardiovascular Outcomes After Percutaneous Coronary Intervention: A Retrospective Cohort Study
ConclusionSSRI use was associated with a significant decrease in MACE rates compared with patients receiving mirtazapine. Bleeding risk was not affected by either antidepressant treatment. SSRIs may have cardioprotective benefits compared with mirtazapine.

Corindus touts first-in-human coronary telerobotics study with CorPath system
Corindus Vascular Robotics (OTC:CVRS) today touted that its CorPath robotic surgical platform was used in a first-in-human telerobotic intervention study in India. The Waltham, Mass.-based company touted that the study was the world’s first percutaneous coronary intervention conducted from a remote location outside of a catheterization lab. In the trial, five patients at India’s Apex Heart Institute underwent an elective PCI procedure from a distance of approximately 20 miles away, Corindus said. The procedures were performed by Apex Heart Institute chair and chief interventional cardiologist Dr. Tejas Patel f...
