Medically Attended Acute Adverse Events in Pregnant People After Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Booster Vaccination
Obstet Gynecol. 2023 May 11. doi: 10.1097/AOG.0000000000005241. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn this multisite, observational, matched cohort study of more than 80,000 pregnant people, receipt of an mRNA monovalent coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) booster vaccination in pregnancy was not associated with increased risk for thrombocytopenia, myocarditis, venous thromboembolism, ischemic stroke, or other serious adverse events within 21 or 42 days after booster vaccination. The mRNA monovalent COVID-19 booster in pregnancy was associated with an increased risk for medically attended malaise or fatigue within 7 days of vac...

Stroke-related risk factors during pregnancy in women who underwent metabolic and bariatric surgery compared with women who have not undergone metabolic and bariatric surgery
CONCLUSIONS: MBS helps women lose weight and decrease the incidence of some pregnancy-related risk factors for stroke. However, there is a notable racial health disparity.PMID:37150625 | DOI:10.1016/j.soard.2023.03.017

Elevated Expression of miR-296 in Human Placentas and Serum Samples From Pregnancies With Preeclampsia
Conclusion: miR-296 may function as a putative diagnostic biomarker for PE and contribute to identifying at-risk mothers in pregnancy.PMID:37113621 | PMC:PMC10126236 | DOI:10.3389/bjbs.2023.11004

Elabela, a Novel Peptide, Exerts Neuroprotective Effects Against Ischemic Stroke Through the APJ/miR-124-3p/CTDSP1/AKT Pathway
In conclusion, these results indicated that ELA could alleviate neuronal apoptosis and axonal damage by upregulating miR-124-3p and activating the CTDSP1/AKT signaling pathway. This study, for the first time, verified the protective effect of ELA against neuronal injury after ischemia and revealed the underlying mechanisms. We demonstrated the potential for the use of ELA as a therapeutic agent in the treatment of ischemic stroke.PMID:37106272 | DOI:10.1007/s10571-023-01352-6

How much does hypertension in pregnancy affect the risk of future cardiovascular events?
Eur Heart J Suppl. 2023 Apr 21;25(Suppl B):B111-B113. doi: 10.1093/eurheartjsupp/suad085. eCollection 2023 Apr.ABSTRACTHypertensive disorders in pregnancy (HDP) include essential (or secondary) hypertension occurring before 20 weeks of gestation or in women already on antihypertensive therapy prior to pregnancy, gestational hypertension, developing after 20 weeks of gestation without significant proteinuria, and pre-eclampsia or AH onset after 20 weeks of pregnancy in the presence of proteinuria. The development of HDP is associated with a higher incidence of long-term cardiovascular (CV) adverse events, such as myocardial...
