Predictive performance of CHA2DS2-VASc-HS score and Framingham risk scores for coronary disease severity in ischemic heart disease patients with invasive coronary angiography
CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrated a high predictive performance of coronary artery injury using the CHA2DS2-VASc-HS score and Framingham risk scores. These scores could be applied in predicting ischemic heart disease in non-symptomatic cases where invasive coronary angiography is not indicated.GRAPHICAL ABSTRACT: https://www.europeanreview.org/wp/wp-content/uploads/Graphical-abstract-4.jpg.PMID:37667940 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202308_33415

Epigenetics of Early-Life Socioeconomic Stressors and the Impact on Childhood Body Mass Index —Potential Mechanism and Biomarker?
Overweight and obesity are growing epidemics worldwide. Recent estimates from the World Health Organization indicate that 39% of adults had overweight, and 13% had obesity. In addition, an estimated 340 million children and adolescents aged 5 to 19 years had overweight or obesity in 2016 whereas 39 million children younger than 5 years had overweight or obesity in 2020. Understanding the biological mechanisms behind the development of overweight and obesity is critical as overweight and obesity are risk factors for a host of cardiometabolic outcomes including heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and chronic kidney disease. The...

Prediction of the 4-Year Incidence Risk of Ischemic Stroke in Healthy Japanese Adults: The Fukushima Health Database
CONCLUSIONS: The 4-year risk prediction model revealed a good performance for IS incidence, and risk scores could be used to estimate individual incidence risk of IS. Updated models with additional confirmed risk variables may be needed.PMID:37661424 | DOI:10.5551/jat.64018

Negative correlation between organ heteroplasmy, particularly hepatic heteroplasmy, and age at death revealed by post-mortem studies of m.3243A   & gt;  G cases
Mol Genet Metab. 2023 Aug 28;140(3):107691. doi: 10.1016/j.ymgme.2023.107691. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMitochondrial DNA m.3243A > G mutation causes mitochondrial encephalopathy, lactic acidosis, and stroke-like episodes (MELAS) and its associated multi-organ disorders, including diabetes. To clarify associations between m.3243A > G organ heteroplasmy and clinical phenotypes, including the age at death, we combined genetic and pathological examinations from seven unreported and 36 literature cases of autopsied subjects. Clinical characteristics of subjects were as follows: male, 13; female, 28; unknown, 2; the a...

Causal associations between type 1 diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular diseases: a Mendelian randomization study
CONCLUSION: This MR study provided evidence supporting the causal effect of T1DM on peripheral atherosclerosis and coronary atherosclerosis, with hypertension partly mediating this effect.PMID:37659996 | PMC:PMC10475187 | DOI:10.1186/s12933-023-01974-6

Short-term cardiovascular events after bariatric surgery in patients with metabolic syndrome
CONCLUSIONS: Patients with MetS have an increased frequency of cardiac events following bariatric surgery. Future studies should determine if optimization of 1 or more components of MetS or other related co-morbidities reduces the cardiovascular risk for patients.PMID:37659898 | DOI:10.1016/j.soard.2023.07.009
