Chronopharmacology of immune-related diseases
Allergol Int. 2022 Jul 15:S1323-8930(22)00075-2. doi: 10.1016/j.alit.2022.06.006. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTClock genes, circadian pacemaker resides in the paired suprachiasmatic nuclei (SCN), control various circadian rhythms in many biological processes such as physiology and behavior. Clock gene regulates many diseases such as cancer, immunological dysfunction, metabolic syndrome and sleep disorders etc. Chronotherapy is especially relevant, when the risk and/or intensity of the symptoms of disease vary predicably over time as exemplified by allergic rhinitis, arthritis, asthma, myocardial infarction, congestive hea...

How Heat Waves Could Have Long-Term Impacts on Your Health
Health officials from the U.S., the U.K., Europe, and Japan have been warning residents to stay out of the sun as the northern hemisphere experiences some of the highest early summer temperatures ever recorded. It’s not just to prevent heat-stroke, but to prevent the long-term consequences as well. As climate change drives summer temperatures even higher than usual, medical researchers are starting to find links between sustained heat exposure and chronic health conditions ranging from diabetes to kidney stones, cardiovascular disease and even obesity. “While increased risk for heat stroke is an obvious manifes...

Sensors, Vol. 22, Pages 5200: Towards Multiplexed and Multimodal Biosensor Platforms in Real-Time Monitoring of Metabolic Disorders
Hung Cao Metabolic syndrome (MS) is a cluster of conditions that increases the probability of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes, and is very common worldwide. While the exact cause of MS has yet to be understood, there is evidence indicating the relationship between MS and the dysregulation of the immune system. The resultant biomarkers that are expressed in the process are gaining relevance in the early detection of related MS. However, sensing only a single analyte has its limitations because one analyte can be involved with various conditions. Thus, for MS, which generally results from the co-existence of multipl...

The Gut Microbiota (Microbiome) in Cardiovascular Disease and Its Therapeutic Regulation
Front Cell Infect Microbiol. 2022 Jun 20;12:903570. doi: 10.3389/fcimb.2022.903570. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTIn the last two decades, considerable interest has been shown in understanding the development of the gut microbiota and its internal and external effects on the intestine, as well as the risk factors for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) such as metabolic syndrome. The intestinal microbiota plays a pivotal role in human health and disease. Recent studies revealed that the gut microbiota can affect the host body. CVDs are a leading cause of morbidity and mortality, and patients favor death over chronic kidney disease. ...

Hyperglycaemic Metabolic Complications of Ischemic Brain: Current therapeutics, anti-diabetics and stem cell therapy
CNS Neurol Disord Drug Targets. 2022 Jun 9. doi: 10.2174/1871527321666220609200852. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTStroke is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in diabetic patients. Diabetes alters endothelial function and disrupts brain pathways, resulting in a variety of systemic metabolic complications. Diabetics not only have impaired neurotransmission, but they also have progressive neurodegeneration, which leads to long-term neurological complications. Diabetes risk factors and physiology alter the frequency and severity of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events, necessitating more hospitalizations. Strok...

Associations of general health conditions with masticatory performance and maximum bite force in older adults: A systematic review of cross-sectional studies
CONCLUSIONS: Negative associations between masticatory function of older adults and presence of several systemic diseases have been reported in a number of studies while there are positive associations between masticatory function and some physical function indicators.CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: This study provides valuable information on the association of masticatory function with general health, which draws clinicians' attention to the masticatory function of older adults who suffer from certain systemic diseases or physical dysfunction, and to the need to improve their masticatory ability to achieve healthy aging.PMID:35691...

A systematic review of randomized clinical trials on the efficacy and safety of pitavastatin
Conclusion The FDA proven indications of pitavastatin are primary dyslipidemia and mixed dyslipidemia as adjunctive therapy to dietary changes to lower total cholesterol, LDL-C, apolipoprotein B (Apo B), triglycerides (TG), and to increase HDL-C. Pitavastatin might be suitable for subjects with diabetes, ACS (reduced revascularization), metabolic syndrome, CKD, HIV, and subjects with low levels of HDL-C. We highly recommend rational individualization for the selection of statin.PMID:35642121 | DOI:10.2174/2772432817666220531115314

Obstructive sleep apnea: transition from pathophysiology to an integrative disease model
J Sleep Res. 2022 May 24:e13616. doi: 10.1111/jsr.13616. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTObstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is characterised by recurring episodes of upper airway obstruction during sleep and the fundamental abnormality reflects the inability of the upper airway dilating muscles to withstand the negative forces generated within the upper airway during inspiration. Factors that result in narrowing of the oropharynx such as abnormal craniofacial anatomy, soft tissue accumulation in the neck, and rostral fluid shift in the recumbent position increase the collapsing forces within the airway. The counteracting forces o...
