Elevated Aminotransferase Levels and Intracerebral Hemorrhage Deaths in a General Japanese Population
Int Heart J. 2023;64(4):678-683. doi: 10.1536/ihj.23-027.ABSTRACTAlthough chronic liver disease has been associated with cardiovascular disease, to which metabolic syndrome might be related, intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) generally has not been focused. Associations of chronic liver disease assessed by aspartate (AST) and alanine (ALT) aminotransferase levels with ICH deaths were examined using 15,952 subjects without a history of cardiovascular disease who underwent annual health checkups in 1997 in Japan. Proportional hazards regression analyses adjusted for age, sex, hypertension, current smoking, diabetes mellitus, dri...

Elevated Chinese visceral adiposity index increases the risk of stroke in Chinese patients with metabolic syndrome
ConclusionOur findings recommend CVAI as a superior screening tool for detecting MetS and suggest that reducing CVAI can mitigate the risk of stroke in patients with MetS.

Metabolic syndrome and osteoarthritis: implications for the management of an increasingly common phenotype
Metabolic syndrome is an accumulation of three or more seemingly benign and relatively common conditions (central obesity, hypertension, raised triglycerides, low HDL-cholesterol, glucose intolerance) that, together, increase the risk of developing serious chronic disease.1 It is estimated that one-quarter of adults worldwide have metabolic syndrome2 — a concerning statistic considering that this population is five times more likely to develop diabetes, and two-to-three times more likely to develop heart disease, stroke, and certain cancers.

Association of polycystic ovary syndrome with cardiovascular disease among US female hospitalizations
CONCLUSIONS: PCOS is associated with CVD events and the association is mediated by obesity and metabolic syndrome conditions, particularly among hospitalized women less than or equal to age 40 years in the US.PMID:37307574 | DOI:10.1093/ejendo/lvad067

Incidence of cardiometabolic outcomes among people living with HIV-1 initiated on integrase strand transfer inhibitor versus non-integrase strand transfer inhibitor antiretroviral therapies: a retrospective analysis of insurance claims in the United States
CONCLUSIONS: Over a short average follow-up period of <2 years, INSTI use among treatment-naïve PLWH was associated with an increased risk of several cardiometabolic outcomes, such as CHF, myocardial infarction and lipid disorders, compared to non-INSTI use. Further research accounting for additional potential confounders and with longer follow-up is warranted to more accurately and precisely quantify the impact of INSTI-containing ART on long-term cardiometabolic outcomes.PMID:37306118 | PMC:PMC10258864 | DOI:10.1002/jia2.26123
