Electrocardiographic left atrial abnormalities and risk of incident stroke in hypertensive patients with electrocardiographic left ventricular hypertrophy
Conclusion: Abnormal PTFV1, a marker of left atrial abnormality, was strongly associated with incident stroke in hypertensive patients, independent of in-treatment SBP and other predictors of incident stroke. This association, in the absence of detectable atrial fibrillation, suggests that an underlying atrial cardiopathy may cause left atrial thrombus formation and a subsequent stroke without intervening clinically recognized atrial fibrillation.

Stroke-Related Disease Comorbidity and Secondary Stroke Prevention Practices Among Young Stroke Survivors
Conclusions: Many young stroke survivors exhibit comorbid disease conditions that are similar to older stroke survivors. A large percentage are engaged in general chronic disease and secondary stroke prevention practices, yet less than two-thirds had seen a general doctor in the past 12 months. Primary care doctors and other health professionals are critical to the implementation of disease management strategies that consider their age, secondary stroke risk, expected life spans, and other issues that differ from older adult stroke survivors.

Relationship of Familial Hypercholesterolemia and High LDL Cholesterol to Ischemic Stroke: The Copenhagen General Population Study.
Conclusions -FH and high LDL cholesterol did not confer an increased risk of ischemic stroke. A positive association with ischemic stroke observed for some clinical FH criteria and high LDL cholesterol appears to be due by previous ischemic heart disease, rather than by high LDL cholesterol per se. Association between drinking and all-cause mortality in patients with ischemic stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: The drinking years and drinking frequency before stroke and drinking status during the follow-up period are related to the all-cause mortality in patients with ischemic stroke.Investigations of the more specific variables of drinking behaviors during the follow-up period are needed to further clarify the association between drinking and death after ischemic stroke. An analysis of the risk of perioperative ischemic stroke in patients undergoing non-cardiovascular and non-neurological surgeries.

Outcome Predictors of Stroke Mortality in the Neurocritical Care Unit
Conclusions: Our analysis showed that mortality risk in critically ill patients with hemorrhagic stroke was closer to mortality risk in patients with ischemic stroke than has been reported in other analyses. Hypertension, chronic heart failure, ischemic heart disease and atrial fibrillation were the most frequent comorbidities in patients who developed severe (life-threatening) stroke. Increased risk of ischaemic stroke amongst patients with chronic osteomyelitis: a population‐based cohort study in Taiwan
ConclusionsThis is the first report linking COM to an increased risk of developing stroke. Results suggest that COM is a significant stroke risk factor and call for closer attention to this group of patients for more rigorous stroke prevention, especially in the younger age group.

Neurological Events Following Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement and Their Predictors: A Report From the CoreValve Trials Structural Heart Disease
Conclusions— Predictors of early stroke after TAVR included clinical and procedural factors; predictors of later stroke were limited to patient but not anatomic characteristics. These findings indicate that further refinement of imaging to identify anatomic factors predisposing to embolization may help improve stroke prediction in patients undergoing TAVR.
