The Impact of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm on Cardiovascular Diseases
Int Heart J. 2021;62(6):1235-1240. doi: 10.1536/ihj.21-328.ABSTRACTCardiovascular diseases (CVDs) including myocardial infarction (MI) and stroke are often diagnosed in patients with abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). However, little has been reported regarding the incidence.Patients with AAA were selected from the National Health Insurance system in South Korea between 2009 and 2015. A total of 10,822 participants with a new diagnosis of AAA were included. Propensity score matching by age and sex with patients in whom AAA was not diagnosed was used to select the control group of 32,466 participants. Primary endpoints includ...

Midterm Outcomes of an Adjustable Puncture Device for In Situ Fenestration During Thoracic Endovascular Aortic Repair
CONCLUSION: In this largest mechanical based ISF study to date, an adjustable puncture device was shown to facilitate the procedure of ISF during endovascular repair of aortic diseases involving the aortic arch, with high success. The midterm outcome demonstrates the efficacy and safety of the device in assisting with preservation of aortic arch branches.PMID:34750032 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejvs.2021.09.028

Association Between Hospital Volume and Failure to Rescue After Open or Endovascular Repair of Intact Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms in the VASCUNET and International Consortium of Vascular Registries
Objective: To investigate the association between hospital volume and failure to rescue (FtR), after open repair (OAR), and endovascular repair (EVAR) of intact abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) among centers participating in the VASCUNET and International Consortium of Vascular Registries. Summary of Background Data: FtR (ie, in-hospital death following major complications) is a composite end-point representing the inability to treat complications effectively and prevent death. Methods: Using data from 8 vascular registries, complication and mortality rates after intact AAA repair were examined (n = 60,27...

Cardiovascular Mortality after Venous Thromboembolism: A Meta-Analysis of Prospective Cohort Studies
Semin Thromb Hemost DOI: 10.1055/s-0041-1733923Many studies from current literature show that cardiovascular diseases in patients with venous thromboembolism (VTE) are more frequent than in the general population without VTE. However, data summarizing the impact of cardiovascular diseases on mortality of patients with VTE are lacking. In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we aimed to determine the frequency and incidence rate of cardiovascular death in patients with VTE. MEDLINE and EMBASE were searched from January 1, 2000 to February 28, 2021. Eligible studies were observational prospective cohort studies includin...

Risk factors Associated with Long Term Mortality and Complications Following Thoracoabdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair
To determine the risk factors associated with late mortality or complications (Thoracoabdominal aortic Aneurysm Life-altering Events (TALE): composite of mortality, permanent paraplegia, permanent dialysis, and stroke) in patients undergoing endovascular or open thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm (TAAA) repair.

The Potential Benefits and Costs of an Intensified Approach to Low Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol Lowering in People with Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm
CONCLUSION: People with a small asymptomatic AAA are at high risk of MVE and PVE. This study provides evidence of the possible benefits and allowable expense for a cost effective intensive LDL-C lowering programme in this population.PMID:34507892 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejvs.2021.06.031

In the Balance: How do Thrombospondins Contribute to the Cellular Pathophysiology of Cardiovascular Disease?
Am J Physiol Cell Physiol. 2021 Sep 8. doi: 10.1152/ajpcell.00251.2021. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThrombospondins (TSPs) are multi-domain, secreted proteins that associate with cell-surfaces and extracellular matrix. In mammals, there is a large body of data on functional roles of various TSP family members in cardiovascular disease (CVD), including stroke, cardiac remodelling and fibrosis, atherosclerosis and aortic aneurysms. Coding single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of TSP1 or TSP4 are also associated with increased risk of several forms of CVD. Whereas interactions and functional effects of TSPs on a variety of...
