Role of DNA damage in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis
J Cardiol. 2022 Sep 12:S0914-5087(22)00218-0. doi: 10.1016/j.jjcc.2022.08.010. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAtherosclerosis is a cause of coronary artery disease, abdominal aortic aneurysm, and stroke. The pathogenesis underlying atherosclerosis is complex but it is clear that inflammation plays a pivotal role. Inflammation in atherosclerosis is triggered by the recognition of intracellular contents released from damaged cells by pattern recognition receptors, and is therefore sterile and chronic. Because the DNA of these cells is damaged, cellular senescence is also involved in this inflammation. Here, we will discuss th...

State of target organs damage and prevalence of clinical associated conditions in patients with a hypertensive crisis and uncontrolled hypertension. (pilot study)
CONCLUSIONS: Patients with hypertensive crisis have more pronounced damage of target organs, as well as the most frequent prevalence of associated clinical conditions.PMID:36027392 | DOI:10.1097/01.hjh.0000838492.53623.dc

Associations of genetically predicted IL-6 signaling with cardiovascular disease risk across population subgroups
CONCLUSIONS: Any benefit of inhibiting IL-6 signaling for CVD risk reduction is likely to be proportional to absolute reductions in hsCRP levels. Therapeutic inhibition of IL-6 signaling for CVD risk reduction should therefore prioritize those individuals with the highest baseline levels of hsCRP.PMID:35948913 | DOI:10.1186/s12916-022-02446-6

What Is or What Is Not a Risk Factor for Arterial Hypertension? Not Hamlet, but Medical Students Answer That Question
Int J Environ Res Public Health. 2022 Jul 5;19(13):8206. doi: 10.3390/ijerph19138206.ABSTRACTHypertension is a leading cause of cardiovascular disease and premature death worldwide. The most important method of preventing hypertension is social awareness of its causes. An important role in educating society about hypertension is played by medical personnel. The study involved 327 students of medicine representing all years of study. The study used a proprietary questionnaire containing test questions about knowledge of the causes of hypertension (classical and non-classical factors), as well as questionable and false risk ...

Association of Physical Activity with Aortic Disease in Japanese Men and Women: The Japan Collaborative Cohort Study
CONCLUSIONS: Greater time spent in sports participation was associated with a reduced risk of mortality from aortic aneurism in the Japanese population. Further studies are needed to investigate the relationship between physical activity and aortic dissection.PMID:35793980 | DOI:10.5551/jat.63416

Smoking Cessation and Mortality from Aortic Dissection and Aneurysm: Findings from the Japan Collaborative Cohort (JACC) Study
CONCLUSIONS: Cigarette smoking was associated with an increased risk of aortic mortality while smoking cessation was so with a reduced risk among the Japanese population.PMID:35718450 | DOI:10.5551/jat.63258
