CONCLUSION: The video improved healthy eating knowledge of individuals in refugee and newly-arrived migrant community groups. SO WHAT?: There is potential for these nutrition education resources to inform and educate newly arrived refugees and migrants to Australia about healthy eating practices, however, future research is required to determine their effect on actual behaviour change.PMID:35642434 | DOI:10.1002/hpja.625

Nutrition education effective in increasing fruit and vegetable consumption among overweight and obese adults.
The objectives of this study were to evaluate fruit and vegetable consumption patterns, including intake of antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables, provide education about benefits of consuming fruits and vegetables, expose participants to different varieties of fruits and vegetables, and improve fruit and vegetable consumption. Fifty-four adults (19 men/35 women; 44.7 ± 12.1 y) were randomly assigned to one of three intervention groups. The control group received no intervention, the education group attended weekly nutrition lessons focused on benefits of fruit and vegetable consumption, and the fruit and vegetable group...

Linking agriculture and nutrition education to improve infant and young child feeding: Lessons for future programmes
Discussions (FGDs) were conducted with purposively selected project stakeholders (53 in Cambodia, 170 in Malawi), including government staff from the agriculture and health sectors. Results highlight that adoption of improved IYCF practices was facilitated by participation in nutrition education and practical cooking sessions, and supportive family and community structures. Barriers faced by families and caregivers were identified, such as women's workload and lack of access to high quality foods, namely fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts and animal source foods. Implementation challenges regarding coordination of cross‐s...

The role of healthcare and education systems in co-occurrence of health risk behaviours in 27 European countries
ConclusionWhile the study highlights the importance of developing high-quality healthcare and education systems generously supported by public fund in relation to co-occurrence of health-risk behaviours, the influence of contextual factors in adopting health-related behaviours is probably attenuated by individual socioeconomic factors.

Performance assessment and standardization in higher education: A problematic conjunction?
CONCLUSIONS: We conclude that performance tasks have an important role to play in higher education, especially in view of the complexity and depth of the learning goals set for the students. For many purposes, they cannot be replaced by simpler, cheaper forms of assessment. Efforts to facilitate comparability in evaluating institutional outcomes, however, have not borne much fruit despite the substantial investments made. We argue that resources would be better directed at improving the quality of assessments developed and employed by college faculty and suggest how that might be accomplished. What is the Dosing of CBD Oil?
Discussion Cannabis sativa makes small fruits which are usually named “seeds” although they are not technically a seed. Hemp oil is derived from the hemp seeds by cold-pressing or other means of macerating or squashing the seeds. Cold pressed oil is high in polyunsaturated fatty acids including various omega-3 and linolenic acids and antioxidants. It is used by some people for its nutritional value and “[a]ccording to an old legend, Buddha (Prince Siddharta Gautama) founder of Buddism, was able to survive eating only one hemp seed each day for six years.” The seeds themselves do not contain any psyc...

The COVID-19 Pandemic and the Reinvention of the Spirit of Solidarity and Cooperation
Primary School in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Credit: Shafiqul Alam Kiron/IPS.By Manssour Bin MussallamGENEVA, Apr 30 2020 (IPS) An invisible adversary has thrown the world – Global South and Global North alike – into disarray. The psychosocial and economic consequences of the COVID-19 crisis will remain with us long after it has been overcome. There will be no anti-viral return to the pre-coronavirus status quo, nor can we afford to idly wait for a viral transformation of our world. The future is not inevitable, abstract promise – it will depend on our collective readiness to forge it, or to be forged by it. Manssour Bin Mu...

Perceived neighbourhood food environment and overweight and obesity among Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education (SNAP-Ed) participants in the Midwest US.
CONCLUSIONS: SNAP-Ed or EFNEP participants' weight status may be associated with their perceptions of their neighbourhood food environments. Programmes incorporating nutrition education and food access initiatives should attempt to better understand participant perceptions in order to address barriers in their efforts and to ensure that healthy food is accessible to low-income residents. What Is In A Ketogenic Diet?
Discussion Epilepsy is a common problem for the general pediatrician. Its incidence is estimated at 41-87/100,000 children. While many children are controlled with medication, it is also estimated that up to 1/3 will develop drug-resistant epilepsy. Some children may have an identifiable seizure focus that may be amenable to surgery, but many others do not. One option for potential control is a ketogenic diet (KD). Indications for KD usually are for drug-resistant epilepsy including partial and complex seizure patterns as well as some metabolic disorders such as glucose transport 1 deficiency syndrome. It has also found ...
