Lessons from Toxicology: Developing a 21st-Century Paradigm for Medical Research
Conclusions Our proposed new research paradigm, adapted from 21st-century toxicology, would involve the following aspects: Developing a big picture of human diseases, integrating extrinsic and intrinsic causes, and linking environmental sciences with medical research using systems biology. Introducing a disease AOP concept, analogous to toxicity AOPs, with the intention of providing a unified framework for describing relevant pathophysiology pathways and networks across multiple biological levels. Creating a strong focus on advanced human-specific research (in vitro, ex vivo, in vivo, and in silico) in place of empirical,...

Medical students' knowledge on vaccinology.
Conclusions: Education plays an important role in shaping the attitudes and responsible behaviour of future physicians. They need to acquire reliable knowledge to persuade their patients as practitioners to use the most effective means of primary prevention of infectious diseases. A change of attitude is needed to stop the route of infection through vaccination, to protect not only their own health but also that of their environment and thus of their patients. Chronic hepatitis B infection and risk of antituberculosis drug-induced liver injury: Systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusion This meta-analysis suggests that CHBI may increase the risk of ATDILI in the standard combination therapy for active TB. Close follow-up and regular liver test monitoring are mandatory to treat TB in chronic hepatitis B carriers.

Healthcare for Patients with Hepatitis B Virus: Analysis of 367 381 Inpatient Cases in China
ConclusionThe BMI operated by government has played a role in the utilization release of health services for HBV carriers. However, researchers must pay more attention to the continuing increase in the medical expenses of this group.

HPV vaccine acceptability among men: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusions Public health campaigns that promote positive HPV vaccine attitudes and awareness about HPV risk in men, and interventions to promote healthcare provider recommendation of HPV vaccination for boys and mitigate obstacles due to cost and logistical barriers may support HPV vaccine acceptability for men. Future investigations employing rigorous designs, including intervention studies, are needed to support effective HPV vaccine promotion among men.

Inappropriate use of serological tests for hepatitis B virus in Evliya Celebi Education and Research Hospital of Dumlupinar University, Kütahya.
In conclusion, it is suggested that test requests should be restricted by using screening algorithms and in-service training should be provided, tests required by secretary or nurse should be stopped and previous test results should be conveyed to the clinicians actively through HIMS in order to prevent unnecessary test requests causing economic and workforce loss in HBV infection serology. These measures can provide early and true diagnosis for the patients and also will reduce the economic loss. PMID: 25492657 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]

Comparing Australian health worker and student attitudes and concerns about providing care to people living with hepatitis B
CONCLUSION: To address concerns that health workers and students may have in working with people living with HBV, particularly those from migrant communities, and to ensure that health workers feel comfortable and confident, HBV workforce development should be included in undergraduate and postgraduate training programs as well as in continuing professional education. SO WHAT?: This will assist the health workforce to develop competency in the treatment of people living with HBV, with the ultimate aim of providing best quality, non-judgemental care to all people living with HBV.PMID:33687771 | DOI:10.1002/hpja.475

Editorial Advancing China's health and medical science
The Lancet and the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS) held the first of what will become their annual Health Summit in Beijing last week. More than 500 delegates, most from China, participated. 30 research abstracts were selected from among 600 submissions for oral presentation, together with around 100 posters. Four keynote speeches highlighted critical aspects of China's endeavour to achieve universal health coverage by 2020: Nanshan Zhong spoke about the continuing threat of air pollution and chronic airway diseases; Wang Yu described the neglected challenge of hepatitis B and C; Richard Peto set out a comprehen...

Epidemiology of Liver Cancer in Latin America: Current and Future Trends
Semin Liver Dis DOI: 10.1055/s-0039-3399561Over 38,000 cases of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are estimated to occur in Latin America annually. The region is characterized by sociocultural heterogeneity and economic disparities, which impose barriers in addressing this major health issue. A significant proportion of patients are still diagnosed in the later stages of the disease, although efforts to implement effective screening programs have been reported by referral centers. While viral hepatitis remains the predominant etiology of liver disease among HCC cases in Latin America, a high prevalence of fatty liver disease ...

Liver Diseases in South Korea: A Pulse Check of the Public's Knowledge, Awareness, and Behaviors
CONCLUSION: The public's knowledge towards liver-related diseases in Korea was found to be lacking, which could account for a lower sense of urgency towards screening and treatment. More efforts are needed to address misperceptions and dispel stigma in an effort to encourage pro-health seeking behaviors.PMID:36444544 | PMC:PMC9760893 | DOI:10.3349/ymj.2022.0332
