Strategies to prevent hepatitis B virus infection in China: immunization, screening, and standard medical practices.
Authors: Zhang C, Zhong Y, Guo L Abstract China has one of the world's highest rates of hepatitis B infection. Over the past 20 years, a series of strategies have been implemented to prevent infection with the hepatitis B virus (HBV) in China. These strategies include hepatitis B (hepB) immunization for susceptible populations such as infants and young children and for high-risk populations such as health care workers and patients, premarital health care for couples of childbearing age, and standard medical practices. A series of measures implemented by the Chinese government caused the HBV infection rate in China ...

Compliance with risk management plan recommendations on laboratory monitoring of antitumor necrosis factor-α therapy in clinical practice
Conclusion The rate of laboratory test monitoring for anti-TNF-α therapy increased after RMP implementation. A strategy that integrates efforts from patient's education, health profession, and regulatory agencies is needed to improve safety screening and access to laboratory resources for the at-risk group of patients.

A survey of knowledge about hepatitis B among new military recruits in China
ConclusionAgainst a backdrop of high HBV prevalence in China, new military recruits had poor knowledge of HBV. New recruits need better education about HBV to assist in reducing and preventing HBV infection.

Prevalence of anti-HBc total positivity in an impoverished Urban Community in Banglades
The infection with the Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is a global health problem. Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infections are rapidly spreading in developing countries due to the lack of health education, poverty, illiteracy and Hepatitis B vaccination. No widespread population based data of HBV is available in the country ' s aspect. So, a population-based serological survey was done to determine the prevalence of the Hepatitis B core antibody total (IgM+IgG) in an impoverished Urban Community in Dhaka, Bangladesh. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among 384 healthy individuals and age between 18-60 years from the urb...

Mortality of patients hospitalized for active tuberculosis in King Abdulaziz University Hospital, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Conclusions: The inpatient TB mortality rate was lower than mortality rates described previously. Nevertheless, early recognition, appropriate treatments, and education for patients and caregivers concerning treatment, efficient medical management, and effective preventive measures can further reduce mortality. Hepatitis B vaccination status and Needle-stick and Sharps-related Injuries among medical school students in Nepal: a cross-sectional study
Conclusions: Needle-stick and Sharps-related Injuries occur frequently among health care workers including trainee students keeping them at high risk for acquiring dreadful infections like HBV, HCV and HIV. They need to be protected from unwarranted hazards by adopting routine Hepatitis B vaccination programs and by reinforcing education regarding universal precautions.

The prevalence of hepatitis B infection in central China: An adult population ‐based serological survey of a large sample size
The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of serum HBsAg among adults in Henan province, China. A provincial serosurvey of people aged 18–74 years was conducted and individuals for analysis were selected using a multistage stratified random cluster sampling method. A 5‐ml serum sample from each person was collected and the serum was tested for the presence of HBsAg, HBcAb, HBsAb, HBeAg, and HBeAb by ELISA. Multivariate analysis was used to identify factors associated with the prevalence of HBsAg. A total of 16,685 residents, aged 18–74 years who resided in 60 communities or villages in Henan, China ...

Benefits of long-term therapy with nucleos(t)ide analogues in treatment-na ïve patients with chronic hepatitis B.
CONCLUSIONS: Long-term administration is generally advised in all CHB patients treated with NAs because of the high rates of virological and clinical relapse after stopping therapy. The findings of this analysis lend support to the choice of highly potent agents with a low drug resistance profile to maximize viral suppression in CHB patients and halt or delay progression to end-stage liver disease. Response to hepatitis B vaccination in patients with liver cirrhosis
In conclusion, cirrhotic patients achieve lower seroprotection rates after the completion of HBV vaccination series. Several strategies have tried to improve the immunogenicity; however, there is a great need for additional studies to further explore (1) the immune response in relation to poor vaccination responsiveness confounding factors, (2) novel strategies to improve immunogenicity, and (3) the immune mechanism underlying the differences in response rates to HBV vaccination.

The Spectrum of Biopsy-Proven Glomerular Disease in China: A Systematic Review.
Conclusions: Although the incidence of SGN is increasing gradually, PGN is still the leading form of kidney disease in patients undergoing renal biopsies in China. IgAN and LN are the most common types of PGN and SGN, respectively. Differences between regions are related to various factors such as nationality, environment, and diet. Furthermore, unified standards and norms for evaluating renal biopsies are urgently needed. PMID: 29521297 [PubMed - in process]

Assessment of liver damage in patients with COVID-19 is sub-optimal: results of a survey of medical practitioners
Rev Esp Enferm Dig. 2021 Apr 6. doi: 10.17235/reed.2021.7970/2021. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLiver damage, defined by an increase in liver biochemical parameters, is related to a more unfavorable severity and prognosis in patients with COVID-19. These patients are also treated with immunomodulatory drugs capable of reactivating the hepatitis B virus (HBV), with indication for prophylaxis in specific situations. Due to its importance in this pathology, we wondered whether physicians should perform a systematic search for liver damage and HBV.PMID:33820421 | DOI:10.17235/reed.2021.7970/2021
