Efficacy of Sublingual Immunotherapy in Allergic Rhinitis Patients with Asthma: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSION: SLIT may be a therapeutic method for improving rhinitis symptoms and asthma symptoms in AR patients with asthma. However, as there was significant heterogeneity in results, more high-quality and well-designed studies are needed in the future to elucidate the efficacy of SLIT.PMID:37559376 | DOI:10.1177/19458924231193528

Management of Mechanical Nasal Obstruction Isolated or Associated to Upper Airway Inflammatory Diseases in Real Life: Use of both Subjective and Objective Criteria
AbstractPurpose of ReviewMechanical nasal obstruction (MNO) is a prevalent condition with a high impact on patient ’s quality-of-life (QoL) and socio-economic burden. The aim of this study was to determine the usefulness of both subjective and objective criteria in the appropriate management of MNO, either alone or associated to upper airway inflammatory diseases such as allergic rhinitis (AR) or chronic rhino sinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP).Recent FindingsA long debate persists about the usefulness of subjective and objective methods for making decisions on the management of patients with nasal obstruction. Establi...

Glucocorticoid-Induced Transcript 1(GLCCI1) SNP rs37937 Is Associated With the Risk of Developing Allergic Rhinitis and the Response to Intranasal Corticosteroids in a Chinese Han Population
CONCLUSION: The GLCCI1 rs37937 polymorphism is associated with the risk of developing AR and the response to INCS treatment in the Chinese Han population.PMID:37553950 | DOI:10.1177/19458924231193156

Endovascular Treatment of Cerebrovascular Lesions Using Nickel- or Nitinol-Containing Devices in Patients with Nickel Allergies INTERVENTIONAL
SUMMARY: Nickel is used in many cerebral endovascular treatment devices. However, nickel hypersensitivity is the most common metal allergy, and the relative risk of treatment in these patients is unknown. This retrospective analysis identified patients with nickel or metal allergies who underwent cerebral endovascular treatment with nickel-containing devices. Seven patients with nickel and/or other metal allergies underwent treatment with 9 nickel-containing devices. None experienced periprocedural complications. No patient received treatment with corticosteroids or antihistamines. At a mean clinical follow-up for all pati...

Diabetes Mellitus and Bone Mineral Density on Fracture Risk in Allergic Rhinitis and Asthma Patients
Asthma (AS) and allergic rhinitis (AR) are the most common allergic diseases, affecting more than 20% of the population.1, 2 In Taiwan, the prevalence rates of asthma and AR were 11.9% and 26.3%, respectively.3 Almost 50% of patients with allergic disease had AR and AS concomitantly.3 Asthma patients have even greater rate of fracture and osteoporosis.1,4 However, there are inconsistencies and contradictions regarding the possible harmful effects of inhaled corticosteroid treatment, such as decreased bone mineral density (BMD) and enhanced fracture risk in asthma patients, based on some review studies.

Accessing the Eustachian Tube: Conventional nasal spray vs. exhalation delivery system and the impact of targeted endoscopic sinus surgery on topical distribution patterns
ConclusionsEDS is more effective than NS in topical delivery to the NP and ET orifices in cadavers. Targeted ESS may facilitate greater NP penetration by EDS compared to NS, with possible synergism after ESS for augmented delivery. These findings suggest a role for EDS delivery methods for ETD management and in CRS+ETD patients undergoing sinus surgery. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved

The impact of steroid-sparing biologic therapies on weight loss in obese individuals with severe eosinophilic asthma
Extract Asthma and obesity are prevalent disorders with significant impact on public health. Obesity is a reported risk factor for the development of asthma and is associated with increased exacerbation rates, medication usage and higher symptoms scores in patients with asthma. It should therefore be addressed and treated as an important asthma related comorbidity [1]. Oral corticosteroids (OCS) are widely prescribed for asthma exacerbations and for chronic management of severe asthma despite well-known adverse side-effects, including weight gain. Biologic therapies for severe asthma reduce exacerbation rates and the anti-...
