The risk factors for food allergy in infants with atopic dermatitis
CONCLUSIONS: Serum total IgE levels, eosinophil counts and ratio, SCORAD index and EASI scores, IDQOL and FDLQ index, pruritus and sleep disturbance scores, and SoE scores were identified as risk factors for FA in infants with AD in this study. The SoE score is an important risk factor for FA in infants with AD. We recommend that the risk factors for FA in patients with AD guide the management of these patients.PMID:37114689 | DOI:10.24953/turkjped.2022.656

The neglected twin: Nummular eczema is a variant of atopic dermatitis with codominant TH2/TH17 immune response
Noncommunicable inflammatory skin diseases (ncISD) are a frequently occurring heterogenous group of skin disorders with complex immune-mediated pathogenesis accompanied by impaired quality of life and social stigmatization. Atopic dermatitis (AD), a major representative of ncISD, comprises a diverse group of diseases in terms of clinical, histologic, and molecular hallmarks, with common overlapping morphologic features.1 However, we lack a clear definition for most of those entities, including nummular eczema (NE).

Eosinophilic esophagitis patients with multiple atopic conditions: Clinical characteristics and treatment response to topical steroids
CONCLUSION: There were differences in initial presentation of EoE between those with and without multiple atopic conditions, but there were no major differences in histologic treatment response to corticosteroids by atopic status.PMID:37100277 | DOI:10.1016/j.anai.2023.04.026

P30 Pharmacist led allergy clinic: Improving paediatric patient care
Conclusions The introduction of a paediatric pharmacist clinic was received positively by the paediatric allergy MDT and the paediatric allergy patients seen (excellent results from patient satisfaction survey). It has contributed to improving patient care, by improving patient safety and reducing waiting times. The outpatient clinic waiting time was reduced by 64% for eczema review after the initiation of topical immunomodulatory therapy for those patients that were referred to the pharmacist clinic and 100% of medication reviews were carried out within 4 weeks of referral. The clinics had significant cost saving implicat...

1613 Detection of skin allergy biomarkers for point of care diagnosis of contact dermatitis
Contact Dermatitis (CD) is a one of the most common inflammatory skin diseases. Distinguishing the different types of CD, especially allergic CD (ACD) versus non-allergic forms, including irritant CD (ICD), is often challenging and requires additional investigations based on patch-testing. Early detection of relevant allergy biomarkers in active CD lesions could help to refine and simplify the management of CD patients. To characterize the molecular signatures of active CD lesions, we studied the expression of 12 allergy biomarkers (identified in a recent transcriptomic study) by qRT-PCR in eczema lesions of 25 CD patients.

Diagnostics and Prevention of Occupational Allergy in Hairdressers
This study aims to provide an overview on current knowledge on occupational allergic diseases in hairdressers and up-to-date perspectives of prevention.Recent FindingsHand eczema (dermatitis) is common in hairdressers, often caused by contact allergy to one or multiple small molecules (haptens) used, e.g.,  for dyeing, bleaching, and waving/relaxing or by ancillary substances such as preservatives. Hairdressers, compared to other patch-tested patients, have an up to fivefold increased risk to be found sensitized, e.g., againstp-phenylenediamine, ammonium persulfate, and glyceryl thioglycolate. Some of these small molecul...
