Pediatricians ’ Advice Is Major Factor in Early Peanut Introduction
Few parents or caregivers are aware of the 2017 national peanut allergy prevention guidelines that suggest introducing peanuts to infants early in life —as young as 4 to 6 months for high-risk infants, defined as those with an egg allergy, severe eczema, or both. Those who did know about the guidelines were more likely to be White, educated, or high income, or to care for an infant with a food allergy or eczema, according to results published in Pediatrics from 3062 people who responded to a national survey.

Integrated proteomics and genomics analysis of paradoxical eczema in psoriasis patients treated with biologics
The serum proteome of paradoxical eczema, an adverse event to biologic therapies, trends towards atopic dermatitis. This signature is detectable before onset of the phenotype and may be genetically mediated.

Human milk oligosaccharides: potential therapeutic aids for allergic diseases
Trends Immunol. 2023 Jul 11:S1471-4906(23)00111-4. doi: 10.1016/j.it.2023.06.003. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChildhood allergy, including asthma, eczema, and food allergies, is a major global health burden, with prevalence increasing dramatically and novel interventions needed. Emerging research suggests that human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs), complex glycans found in breastmilk, have allergy-protective properties, indicating exciting therapeutic potential. This review evaluates current literature on the role of HMOs in allergy, assesses underlying immunological mechanisms, and discusses future research needed to trans...

Associations of gestational and early-life exposure to toxic metals and fluoride with a diagnosis of food allergy or atopic eczema at 1 year of age
In conclusion, our results indicate that gestational cadmium exposure might be associated with food allergy at 1 year of age and, possibly, early-life exposure to fluoride with atopic eczema. Further prospective and mechanistic studies are needed to establish causality.PMID:37422976 | DOI:10.1016/j.envint.2023.108071

Clinical predictors of wheeze trajectories and associations with allergy in Asian children
CONCLUSION: The timing of viral infection occurrence may determine the type of wheeze trajectory development in children. Children with family history of allergy and viral infections in early life may be predisposed to persistent wheeze development and the associated comorbidities early allergic sensitization and eczema.PMID:37419414 | DOI:10.1016/j.anai.2023.06.024

Allergy season really is getting worse every year. Here ’s how science can help | Theresa MacPhail
We are slowly beginning to understand how our immune systems work, which will help us prevent allergies – but more research is desperately neededIf it seems as though everyone around you has been sneezing, coughing and wheezing more often this summer, you ’re not imagining things. Allergies are both becoming more common and getting worse. In some ways, this is not news. Respiratory allergy, asthma, eczema and food allergy rates have all been ticking upward for at least the past 50 years. Currently, approximately30-40% of the global population has at least one allergic condition.Industrialisation, urbanisation, changing...

Hair Dyes Sensitization and Cross-Reactions: Challenges and Solutions: A Systematic Review of Hair Dye Allergens' Prevalence
Dermatitis. 2023 Jun 23. doi: 10.1089/derm.2023.0019. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACT Widespread use of oxidative hair dyes during the past decades has raised questions on the potential allergy reactions and their management, as well as prevention measures for both professionals and consumers. Allergic contact dermatitis can be elicited by various hair dye-related allergens, though the main problem remains with p-phenylenediamine and related aromatic amines. If allergy is suspected, patch testing identifies the responsible hapten. Individuals sensitized to specific permanent hair dyes substances should avoid the exposure to...

Relationship between Eczema and Self-reported Difficulties Keeping up with School Education: A Cross-sectional Study
Acta Derm Venereol. 2023 Jun 5;103:adv5268. doi: 10.2340/actadv.v103.5268.ABSTRACTEczema is a common chronic disease that affects both children and adults, and may have an adverse impact on school performance, as it is characteristically pruritic, and hence may lead to poor concentration and inadequate sleep. The aim of this study was to elucidate the relationship between eczema and self-reported difficulties keeping up with school education. The study was based on cross-sectional questionnaire data collected in schools among all 9th graders (15-16 years old) within a Swedish county. Logistic regression analyses were used ...
