An asymptomatic diffuse palatal mass
An 82 year-old African-American woman presented for evaluation of “itchiness and tingling” of the palate and a poorly fitting maxillary denture of two months history. Her medical history was significant for hypertension, hyperlipidemia, atrial fibrillation, gout, gastroesophageal reflux disease and a history of left breast ductal carcinoma in-situ (status-post excision and radiation therapy in 2008). Her medications included diltiazem, pravastatin, allopurinol, colchicine, and omeprazole and she had no known drug allergies.

Pilomatrix Carcinoma Mimicking a Pigmented Basal Cell Carcinoma.
Abstract A 76-year-old Caucasian man presented to the dermatology clinic for evaluation of a growing lesion in his right preauricular area. He first noticed the lesion several months prior to presentation but felt it had enlarged significantly in the past month. He denied any pain, pruritus, or bleeding. His medical history was significant for melanoma of the nose treated 47 years ago, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and chronic back pain. The patient reported having the melanoma treated but was unaware of any other details concerning the lesion. He denied any allergies and his...

Role of diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) detection and its grading on 3T MRI: A prospective study
Conclusion DWI can be used as an alternative for the detection and characterization of HCC, especially in patients with impaired renal function or contrast allergies precluding the use of contrast. In addition, DWI with ADC measurement may be helpful for non-invasive and preoperative prediction of the degree of differentiation of HCC.

Clinical Translation of an Albumin-Binding PET Radiotracer 68Ga-NEB
Conclusion: As a blood-pool imaging agent, 68Ga-NEB is safe to use in the clinic, and our preliminary studies demonstrate the value of differentiating hepatic hemangioma from other benign or malignant focal hepatic lesions. Easy labeling with different positron emitters of various half-lives, excellent pharmacokinetics, and imaging quality warrant further clinical applications of NEB-based PET tracers.

Centipeda minima (Ebushicao) extract inhibits PI3K-Akt-mTOR signaling in nasopharyngeal carcinoma CNE-1 cells
This study aims to investigate the anticancer activities of Centipeda minima ethanol extracts (CME) against nasopharyngeal carcinoma cell CNE-1 and their underlying mechanism. Methods: CNE-1 cells were treated with different concentrations (15–50 μg/mL) of CME for different time intervals (24, 48, and 72 h). Cytotoxicity of CME was determined by MTT assay. Cell morphological changes were observed by fluorescence microscopy after HO 33258 staining. Cell cycle status was evaluated by flow cytometry following propidium iodide staining. Apoptosis was detected by flow cytometry following annexin V-FITC/PI staining. The lev...

Allergies and Atopic Dermatitis in Relation to Skin Cancer
Conclusion: Our findings suggest that allergies and atopy may influence risk of early onset BCC and SCC, and that effects may be gender specific. Impact: A deeper understanding of the immune mechanisms underlying allergies and atopy may provide new routes of preventing keratinocyte cancers. Systemic glucocorticoid use and early-onset basal cell carcinoma
Immunosuppressive medications are common in the management of numerous conditions, such as organ transplantation, allergies, and respiratory disorders [1]. In some patients with conditions, such as organ transplantation, that require long-term high-dose immunosuppression, immunosuppressives increase risk for squamous cell carcinoma of the skin (SCC; 60- to 250-fold increase), and to a lesser extent for basal cell carcinoma (BCC; 10-fold increase) [2–10]. An increased risk of nonmelanoma skin cancer (NMSC) has also been associated with immunosuppressives among rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease patients [11–13].

Adenocarcinoma of the Stomach and Neuroendocrine Carcinoma of the Colon in a 45-Year-Old Male Patient Suffering from Common Variable Immunodeficiency (CVID) and Ulcerative Colitis.
Abstract Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is the most common primary antibody deficient syndrome in adults. Among the broad spectrum of clinical manifestations are recurrent infections, allergies, autoimmune, tumour, pulmonary, liver and gastrointestinal diseases. Here we report the case of a 45-year-old male patient, who has been suffering from ulcerative colitis - likewise recognised as a CVID-associated disease - for many years. He was admitted to our clinic with a rapid progressive reduction of his general condition and a loss of weight. Diagnostic work-up revealed adenocarcinoma of the stomach as well ...
