Sodium channel endocytosis drives axon initial segment plasticity
Sci Adv. 2023 Sep 15;9(37):eadf3885. doi: 10.1126/sciadv.adf3885. Epub 2023 Sep 15.ABSTRACTActivity-dependent plasticity of the axon initial segment (AIS) endows neurons with the ability to adapt action potential output to changes in network activity. Action potential initiation at the AIS highly depends on the clustering of voltage-gated sodium channels, but the molecular mechanisms regulating their plasticity remain largely unknown. Here, we developed genetic tools to label endogenous sodium channels and their scaffolding protein, to reveal their nanoscale organization and longitudinally image AIS plasticity in hippocamp...

Tailoring the growth route of lithium peroxide through the rational design of a sodium-doped nickel phosphate catalyst for lithium-oxygen batteries
Chem Commun (Camb). 2023 Sep 15. doi: 10.1039/d3cc03323f. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTailoring the morphology and structure of Li2O2, the discharge product of lithium-oxygen batteries (LOBs), through the rational design of cathode catalysts is an efficient strategy to promote the electrochemical performance of LOBs. In this work, sodium-doped nickel phosphate nanorods (Na-NiPO NRs) grown on Ni foam (NF) were prepared by the hydrothermal method and subsequent calcination. For the Na-NiPO NRs, the electronic structure could be optimized and abundant void space among the nanorods would provide abundant transport channels. ...

Efficient removal of cationic dye using ZIF-8 based sodium alginate composite beads: Performance evaluation in batch and column systems
Chemosphere. 2023 Sep 13:140163. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2023.140163. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe environmental and health risks associated with dye contamination in water sources are alarming. Recently, researchers have been focusing on developing an innovative and susceptible solution using composite beads that effectively combat this issue. In this paper, beads were synthesized using a sodium alginate (SA) and zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) through a simple dipping process. Several characterization tests were performed including XRD, FTIR, BET, TGA, and SEM-EDX. The SEM images confirmed that SA effect...

Chemistry. 2023 Sep 15;29(52):e202302443. doi: 10.1002/chem.202302443. Epub 2023 Aug 16.ABSTRACTInvited for the cover of this issue are Shinobu Aoyagi (Nagoya City University), Takahiro Sasamori (University of Tsukuba), and Hideki Yorimitsu (Kyoto University). The image depicts multiply exo-methylated corannulenes (flowers) synthesized from corannulene (central large flower) by the reduction with sodium (soil) to form anionic corannulenes and the subsequent methylation with reduction-resistant dimethyl sulfate (butterflies). Cellulose microfiber extraction from leftover celery pulp: Chemomechanical treatments, structural, morphological, and thermal characterization
Int J Biol Macromol. 2023 Sep 13:126834. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2023.126834. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBased on the variety of attractive applicability and structural advantages, cellulose is suggested as a sustainable and environmentally-friendly replacement for petroleum-based materials. Therefore, the current study proposed two chemo-mechanical treatments including bleaching with sodium chlorite and sodium hypochlorite for pure cellulose extraction from leftover celery pulp (Apium graveolens var. dulce). The characterizations of the extracted cellulose fibers were measured and analyzed, by using FT-IR, XRD, optical...

Robust and bioaffinity-enhanced nanocarrier based immunochromatographic assay with simplified sample preparation for pentachlorophenol sodium in animal tissues
Talanta. 2023 Sep 9;267:125190. doi: 10.1016/j.talanta.2023.125190. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSample pretreatment is directly related to the accuracy and reproducibility of test results, simple and controllable sample pretreatment can greatly reduce analysis errors. Herein, MIL-88B-NH2 was synthesized with a regular octahedral rigid framework structure and used as antibody carrier to develop an immunochromatographic assay (ICA) for the detection of sodium pentachlorophenol (PCP) in animal tissues. MIL-88B-NH2 has superior molar absorption coefficient, ultrahigh antibody affinity, and extreme detection environmental tol...
