Preventive health care in blood cancer survivors: results from the ABC study
CONCLUSIONS: Utilization of preventive care is high among German blood cancer survivors. To ensure widespread delivery and avoid redundancy, communication between oncologists and preventive care providers is essential.PMID:37395845 | DOI:10.1007/s00432-023-04984-9

Non-protective immunity after standard pneumococcal vaccination series identified as a potential contributing risk factor for refractory otolaryngologic conditions in children
CONCLUSION: In pediatric patients with recurrent infectious otolaryngologic disease refractory to traditional medical and surgical therapy, inadequate responses to pneumococcal vaccination may be revealed. This correlation represents a potential pathway for diagnosis and therapy.PMID:37386844 | DOI:10.1177/00034894231182745

Evaluation of structural modification induced activation of pneumococcal polysaccharide by GC-MS for the conjugate vaccine
Carbohydr Res. 2023 Jun 25;531:108878. doi: 10.1016/j.carres.2023.108878. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPolysaccharide (Ps) activation evaluation is an imperative quality attribute in a conjugate vaccine. Pneumococcal polysaccharide (PnPs) serotypes 5, 6B, 14, 19A and 23F were cyanylated for 3 and 8 min. The cyanylated and non-cyanylated polysaccharides were methanolysed and derivatized to assess the activation of each sugar by GC-MS. The activation of 22 and 27% serotype 6B and 11 and 36% in serotype 23 F Ps at 3 and 8 min respectively showed controlled conjugation kinetics with CRM197 carrier protein estimated by SEC-HPL...

Preventive behaviors and behavioral risk factors among gynecologic cancer survivors: Results from the 2020 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System Survey
CONCLUSION: Smoking prevalence among gynecologic cancer survivors is alarmingly high. Intervention studies are needed to identify effective ways to assist gynecologic cancer survivors to quit smoking and refrain from hazardous alcohol consumption. In addition, women with gynecologic malignancies should made aware of the importance of physical activity.PMID:37387412 | DOI:10.1002/cam4.6134

Biodistribution assessment of cationic pullulan nanogel, a nasal vaccine delivery system, in mice and non-human primates
Vaccine. 2023 Jun 27:S0264-410X(23)00754-5. doi: 10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.06.065. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCationic cholesteryl-group-bearing pullulan nanogel (cCHP-nanogel) is an effective drug-delivery system for nasal vaccines. However, cCHP-nanogel-based nasal vaccines might access the central nervous system due to its close proximity via the olfactory bulb in the nasal cavity. Using real-time quantitative tracking of the nanogel-based nasal botulinum neurotoxin and pneumococcal vaccines, we previously confirmed the lack of deposition of vaccine antigen in the cerebrum or olfactory bulbs of mice and non-human primat...

Marketing Two Immunization Services at a Regional Supermarket Chain Pharmacy
Conclusions: The pilot project incorporated personal selling into the dispensing workflow and, although no vaccines were given, provided valuable lessons. The full study demonstrated that personal selling alone and personal selling combined with automated telephone calls were associated with higher vaccine delivery rates.PMID:37368429 | DOI:10.3390/pharmacy11030103

Reducing the risk of infections in hereditary and acquired complement deficiencies.
Orv Hetil. 2023 Jun 25;164(25):971-980. doi: 10.1556/650.2023.32798. Print 2023 Jun 25.ABSTRACTHereditary complement deficiencies are relatively rare worldwide, they account for about 1-10% of primary immunodeficiencies. Acquired complement deficiencies are more prevalent and with the more frequent use of complement inhibitor therapy, the incidence of patients with iatrogenic complement deficiency is increasing. Alike in the inherited forms, patients have a high risk of severe and life-threatening infections caused by encapsulated bacteria (sepsis, meningitis). The most frequent pathogens are Neisseria meningitidis, Strept...
