mpMRI-targeted biopsy of the prostate in men ≥ 75 years. 7-year report from a high-volume referral center
CONCLUSION: After evaluation of a large patient cohort, we show that age≥75 years represents a significant risk factor for the detection of clinically significant prostate cancer. Further studies on mid- and long term outcome are necessary to draw conclusions for clinical decision making in this patient cohort.PMID:37718788 | DOI:10.3233/CH-238101

Baseline prostate health index risk category and risk category changes during active surveillance predict grade reclassification
CONCLUSIONS: Baseline PHI risk category and PHI changes over time were both independent predictors of GR after confirmatory biopsy, but the added benefit over PSAD seemed modest. However, baseline PHI and PHI risk category changes provided clinically useful risk stratification for time to GR, so further evaluation of PHI's ability to help reduce the frequency of mpMRI and/or surveillance biopsies with more PHI data points over time may be warranted.PMID:37722985 | DOI:10.1016/j.urolonc.2023.08.011

Dosimetric impact of MLC positional errors on dose distribution in IMRT
This study investigates dose sensitivity variations and complexity metrics of MLC positional error in volumetric modulated arc therapy and determines the acceptable ranges of MLC positional accuracy in several clinical situations. Treatment plans were generated for four treatment sites (prostate cancer, lung cancer, spinal, and brain metastases) using different treatment planning systems (TPSs) and fraction sizes. Each treatment plan introduced 0.25-2.0 mm systematic or random MLC leaf bank errors. The generalized equivalent uniform dose (gEUD) sensitivity and complexity metrics (MU/Gy and plan irregularity) were calculate...

Suppression of tumor cell lactate-generating signaling pathways eradicates murine PTEN/p53-deficient aggressive-variant prostate cancer via macrophage phagocytosis
CONCLUSIONS: Abrogation of lactate-mediated cross-talk between cancer cells and TAM results in durable ADT-independent tumor control in PTEN/p53-deficient AVPC, and warrants further investigation in clinical trials.PMID:37721526 | DOI:10.1158/1078-0432.CCR-23-1441

NKX3.1 Expression Contributes to Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition of Prostate Cancer Cells
ACS Omega. 2023 Sep 1;8(36):32580-32592. doi: 10.1021/acsomega.3c03127. eCollection 2023 Sep 12.ABSTRACTStudies demonstrate that inflammation synergizes with high-grade aggressive prostate tumor development and ultimately metastatic spread, in which a lot of work has been done in recent years. However, the clear mechanism of inflammation inciting prostate cancer remains largely uncharacterized. Our previous study has shown that the conditioned media (CM)-mediated LNCaP cell migration is partially correlated with the loss of expression of the tumor suppressor NKX3.1. Here, we continue to investigate the inflammation-mediate...

Relationship between seminal vesicle displacement and distribution of hydrogel spacer within the perirectal space in prostate radiotherapy
In conclusion, SV cranial displacement was influenced by HS lateral distribution of ≥1.00 cm in the upper two slices. Therefore, when the sigmoid colon or small bowel is depressed in rectovesical excavation and SV needs to be included in the target volume, HS insertion should be performed carefully.PMID:37719041 | PMC:PMC10502802 | DOI:10.3892/mco.2023.2674

Perirenal Fascia - an Uncommon Site of Metastases in Prostate Cancer Detected on < sup > 68 < /sup > Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT
We report a case of a 50-year-old man with biopsy-proven high-risk PCa in which multiple tracer avid perirenal fascia deposits were identified on 68Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT, in addition to multi-focal prostatic primary, extensive nodal, and skeletal metastases. This case highlights that perirenal fascia is an uncommon metastatic site in PCa.PMID:37720882 | PMC:PMC10504131 | DOI:10.1007/s13139-023-00801-w
