18F-prostate specific membrane antigen positron emission tomography/computerized tomography for lymph node staging in medium/high risk prostate cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: 18F-PSMA PET/CT showed moderate sensitivity but high specificity in lymph node staging of medium/high-risk PCa. The diagnostic efficacy was almost equivalent to that reported for 68Ga-PSMA PET/CT.REGISTRATION: International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO), No. CRD42023391101.PMID:37690993 | DOI:10.1097/CM9.0000000000002850

Metabolic signature biomarkers for predicting the recurrence of urological cancers
This article critically reviews for the first time, to our knowledge, the promise of metabolomics-based approaches to identify metabolic signatures as candidate prognostic biomarkers to predict recurrences at the time of surgery in prostate cancer (PCa), bladder cancer (BCa), and renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Dysregulations in the levels of several tumoral, circulating, and excreted metabolites have been reported in PCa patients experiencing recurrence within 1.5 to 8 years of follow-up. The combination of these metabolic biomarkers with clinical parameters (e.g., pathological T stage, Gleason score) has shown great potentia...

Androgen receptor and hyaluronan-mediated motility receptor as new molecular targets of baicalein: new molecular mechanisms for its anticancer properties
Arch Pharm Res. 2023 Sep 10. doi: 10.1007/s12272-023-01461-2. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNatural compounds known as phytochemicals have served as valuable resources for the development of new anti-cancer drugs and treatment of malignancies. Among these phytochemicals, baicalein is an emerging anti-tumor flavonoid obtained from Scutellaria baicaleinsis (Lamiaceae), but its underlying mechanisms of action and molecular targets have not yet been completely elucidated. Here, we identified new mechanisms for the anti-tumor activities of baicalein, providing evidence that hyaluronan-mediated motility receptor (HMMR) and andro...

Integrated transcriptome and proteome analysis indicates potential biomarkers of prostate cancer in offspring of pregnant rats exposed to a phthalate mixture during gestation and lactation
Chemosphere. 2023 Sep 8:140020. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2023.140020. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAs the second leading cause of death for cancer among men worldwide, prostate cancer (PCa) prevention and detection remain a critical challenge. One aspect of PCa research is the identification of common environmental agents that may increase the risk of initiation and progression of PCa. Endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are strong candidates for risk factors, partially because they alter essential pathways for prostate gland development and oncogenesis. Phthalates correspond to a set of commercially used plasticizers...

Overall Survival of Metastatic Prostate Cancer Patients According to Location of Visceral Metastatic Sites
CONCLUSION: In mPCa patients, lung only visceral metastases, especially when associated with lymph node only nonvisceral metastases, portend the best prognosis. Conversely, visceral metastatic sites other than lung portend poor prognosis, regardless of concomitant nonvisceral metastases type.PMID:37690970 | DOI:10.1016/j.clgc.2023.08.004

Dominant negative TGF β receptor II and truncated TIM3 enhance the antitumor efficacy of CAR-T-cell therapy in prostate cancer
CONCLUSIONS: This study emphasizes that upregulating dnTGFβRII and trTIM3 on the surface of T cells can potentially diminish the inhibitory effects of TGFβRII and TIM3.PMID:37690238 | DOI:10.1016/j.intimp.2023.110807

Patient-reported outcome measures compared to clinician reported outcomes regarding incontinence and erectile dysfunction in localized prostate carcinoma after robot assisted radical prostatectomy: Impact on management
CONCLUSIONS: This is to our knowledge the first study that compared the PROs with clinician reported functional outcomes and the impact of discrepancies on the management of side effects of RARP in prostate cancer. Observed discrepancies between the PROs and CROs did not affect offered management and counseling of UI and ED.PMID:37690935 | DOI:10.1016/j.urolonc.2023.08.001
