Dosimetric impact of MLC positional errors on dose distribution in IMRT
This study investigates dose sensitivity variations and complexity metrics of MLC positional error in volumetric modulated arc therapy and determines the acceptable ranges of MLC positional accuracy in several clinical situations. Treatment plans were generated for four treatment sites (prostate cancer, lung cancer, spinal, and brain metastases) using different treatment planning systems (TPSs) and fraction sizes. Each treatment plan introduced 0.25-2.0 mm systematic or random MLC leaf bank errors. The generalized equivalent uniform dose (gEUD) sensitivity and complexity metrics (MU/Gy and plan irregularity) were calculate...

LINC00668 promoted non-small lung cancer progression by miR-518c-3p/TRIP4 axis
CONCLUSIONS: LINC00668 acted as an oncogene in NSCLC progression through miR-518c-3p/TRIP4 axis. Our study disclosed a new mechanism of LINC00668 functioned in NSCLC and may give a deeper insight of the targeted therapy of NSCLC in the future.PMID:37718780 | DOI:10.3233/CBM-230154

The negative effect of concomitant medications on immunotherapy in non-small cell lung cancer: An umbrella review
CONCLUSIONS: The concurrent usage of PPIs or steroids adversely affects the survival of patients with NSCLC receiving immunotherapy. Future investigations are required to ascertain whether these adverse effects are primarily attributed to the comorbidities or the concurrent medications.PMID:37722262 | DOI:10.1016/j.intimp.2023.110919

Role of human epidermal growth factor receptor 3 in treatment resistance of anaplastic lymphoma kinase translocated non-small cell lung cancer
CONCLUSIONS: This study provides evidence that HER3 may mediate TKI resistance in ALK+ NSCLC. Interestingly, we were able to show that both translocated ALK and HER3 could interact. Joint targeting of ALK and HER3 could be further investigate in ALK+ NSCLC.PMID:37722715 | DOI:10.1080/15384047.2023.2256906

Comparative analysis of methodologies for predicting overall survival in patients with non-small cell lung cancer based on the number and rate of resected positive lymph nodes: A study based on the SEER database for 2010 through 2019
CONCLUSIONS: Our results demonstrate that nPLN and LNR classifications may offer improved prognostic performance compared with the current N classification for LN-positive NSCLC patients. Nonetheless, more studies are needed to assess the feasibility of incorporating these classifications into the next TNM staging system.PMID:37723579 | DOI:10.1111/crj.13699

Overview of CD70 as a Potential Therapeutic Target for Osteosarcoma
J Immunol. 2023 Oct 1;211(7):1067-1072. doi: 10.4049/jimmunol.2200591.ABSTRACTOsteosarcoma is a primary malignant bone tumor. Effective chemotherapy regimens for refractory disease are scarce, accounting for no improvement in survival. Immune-based cell therapies have emerged as novel alternatives. However, advancements with these therapies have been seen mostly when immune cells are armed to target specific tumor Ags. Recent studies identified cluster of differentiation 70 (CD70) as a promising target to osteosarcoma particularly because CD70 is highly expressed in osteosarcoma lung metastases (Pahl et al. 2015. Cancer Ce...

Overall signature of acquired KRAS gene changes in advanced non-small cell lung cancer patient with EGFR-TKI resistance
CONCLUSIONS: This study provides significant evidence of the role of acquired KRAS variants in the development of resistance to epidermal growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase inhibitor therapy. Our results contribute to the growing body of knowledge on the mutational profiles associated with resistance to epidermal growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase inhibitor treatment. Furthermore, our study highlights the KRAS gene change as a significant mechanism of resistance to epidermal growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase inhibitor therapy.PMID:37721193 | DOI:10.1093/jjco/hyad123

Medico-economic impact of thoracoscopy versus thoracotomy in lung cancer: multicentre randomised controlled trial (Lungsco01)
CONCLUSIONS: Given our results, the economic efficiency of video-thoracoscopy at 30 days remains fragile at a willingness-to-pay threshold of €25,000/QALY. The economic efficiency is not established beyond that time horizon. The acceptability curves given will allow decision-makers to judge the probability of efficiency of this technology at other willingness-to-pay thresholds.TRIAL REGISTRATION: NCT02502318.PMID:37723516 | DOI:10.1186/s12913-023-09962-y

Schweinfurthiamide, a new alkaloid isolated from the tuber roots of < em > Asparagus flagellaris < /em > Baker (Liliaceae)
Nat Prod Res. 2023 Sep 18:1-7. doi: 10.1080/14786419.2023.2257358. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe phytochemical investigations of the tuber roots of Asparagus flagellaris led to the isolation of a new alkaloid, schweinfurthiamide (1) and eight known compounds. The structures of the isolated compounds were elucidated using spectroscopic techniques 1D and 2D NMR (1H, 13C, COSY, HMBC, HMQC, HSQC-TOCSY). The absolute configuration of 1 was unambiguously determined using DP4+ calculations. Compound 1 showed significant cytotoxicity against MCF-7 (breast cancer), NCI-H460 (lung cancer), and Hela (cervical cancer) cancer cell ...

Deep Learning-Based Feature Extraction from Whole-Body PET/CT Employing Maximum Intensity Projection Images: Preliminary Results of Lung Cancer Data
CONCLUSION: A 2-D image-based pre-trained model could extract image patterns of whole-body FDG PET volume by using anterior and lateral views of MIP images bypassing the direct use of 3-D PET volume that requires large datasets and resources. We suggest that this approach could be implemented as a backbone model for various applications for whole-body PET image analyses.PMID:37720886 | PMC:PMC10504178 | DOI:10.1007/s13139-023-00802-9

Awareness on passive smoking among Indian adults
Bioinformation. 2023 Jan 31;19(1):10-13. doi: 10.6026/97320630019010. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTAround one-third of adults worldwide regularly come into contact with passive smoking. In addition to many other health issues, non-smokers who are exposed to passive smoking at home or at work have a 20-30% higher risk of acquiring lung cancer. The current study set out to determine adult smokers' awareness of the hazards of passive smoking as well as the efficacy of an education campaign in raising that awareness. To finish the investigation, a pre-experimental research approach was employed. 60 adults between the ages of 18 an...
