Interactions among variants in TXA2R, P2Y12 and GPIIIa are associated with carotid plaque vulnerability in Chinese population.
Conclusions: The rs1131882, rs2317676, and rs16863323 three-loci interactions may confer a higher risk of carotid plaque vulnerability, and might be potential markers for plaque instability. PMID: 29707133 [PubMed]

Neurological manifestations of atrial myxoma: A retrospective analysis.
In conclusion, atrial myxomas frequently manifest as cerebral infarction in individuals without cardiovascular risk factors. These tumors more commonly affect the middle cerebral artery. Irregular surface of myxomas appears to be associated with embolic events. Echocardiography may improve the diagnosis and early treatment of atrial myxomas. PMID: 30214598 [PubMed]

Platelet count is associated with outcome in cancer patients with stroke
ConclusionIn cancer patients with CVD, thrombocytopenia at the time of CVD diagnosis and altered mental status during initial clinical evaluation were associated with higher mortality, which should be confirmed in future studies.

Contrast enhancing spots as a new pattern of late onset pseudoprogression in glioma patients
ConclusionWe hypothesize that the late onset phenomenon of NCES predominantly represents a form of radiation-induced vasculopathy that is different from early pseudoprogression and should be considered especially in younger patients with IDH-mutated glioma before initiation of new therapy.

Cardiac Complications in the Adult Bone Marrow Transplant Patient
AbstractPurpose of ReviewDue to advancements in oncologic treatment strategies and techniques, the number of survivors who have undergone hematopoetic stem cell transplant (HCT) continues to increase in the United States; this number is projected to reach 502,000 by the year 2030. There is significant interest within the field of cardio-oncology to identify cardiotoxicity and cardiovascular disease in the HCT population. Epidemiologic studies analyzing both short- and long-term cardiovascular effects, risk stratification modeling, cardioprotective strategies, and expert consensus documents for cardiotoxicity surveillance r...

Neural stem cells promote glioblastoma formation in nude mice
ConclusionsThese results imply the potential role that NSCs play in speeding up tumor formation in the process of glioblastoma relapse, providing the basis for dealing with newly diagnosed glioblastoma patients, which may help postpone the recurrence of glioblastoma as far as possible through preprocessing the tumor-adjacent SVZ tissue.

NAMPT as a Dedifferentiation-Inducer Gene: NAD+ as Core Axis for Glioma Cancer Stem-Like Cells Maintenance
Conclusion and Perspectives Gliomas are the most prevalent primary brain cancer in adults and include a broad category of tumors including astrocytoma, oligodendroglioma, and GBM. Regardless of tumor aggressiveness, malignancy, and infiltration, these glia-derived tumors rarely exceed a median survival time of 12–14 months. Driven by the infiltrative nature of these tumors, the clinical approach is difficult and relapses often occur with fatal consequences. These unsuccessful attempts to control glioma's fate have fostered research looking for more effective therapies. (GSCs) are a small subset of CD133&#...

Cancers, Vol. 12, Pages 1285: Genome-Wide Association Meta-Analysis of Single-Nucleotide Polymorphisms and Symptomatic Venous Thromboembolism during Therapy for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and Lymphoma in Caucasian Children
Conclusion: This represents the largest GWAS meta-analysis conducted to date associating SNPs to VTE in children and adolescents treated on childhood ALL protocols. Validation of these findings is needed and may then lead to patient stratification for VTE preventive interventions. As VTE hemostasis involves multiple pathways, a more powerful GWAS is needed to detect combination of variants associated with VTE.

A Review on the Use of Reversal Agents of Direct Oral Anticogulant Drugs in Case of Gastrointestinal Bleeding.
CONCLUSION: Although these agents have been marketed for five years (idarucizumab) and two years (andexanet alfa) respectively, and despite guidelines considering antidotes as first-line agents in treating life-threatening hemorrhage when available, these antidotes seem to gain access very slowly in the clinical practice. Cost, logistical aspects and need for plasma level determination of DOAC for an accurate therapeutic use probably have an impact on this phenomenon.. An expert multidisciplinary bleeding team should be established so as to implement international guidelines based on local resources and organization. ...

Gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonists, anti-androgens and the risk of cardio-cerebrovascular disease in prostate cancer patients: an asian population-based observational study
Conclusions: The current study based on Asian population suggests that treatment with neither GnRH agonist nor antiandrogens increases the risk of cardio-cerebrovascular disease compared to patients with ADT-naïve prostate cancer.
