IJERPH, Vol. 15, Pages 2615: Reduced Risks of Both Ischemic and Hemorrhagic Strokes in Nurses: A Population-Based Cohort Study in Taiwan
Conclusion: The risks of both stroke types were lower in the nurse group than in the control. For stroke prevention, more frequent physical examinations are needed in order to enhance the health and well-being of people, including the nurses.

Predicting Long ‑Term Cardiovascular Events after Transient Ischemic Attacks: Carotid Artery Intima‑Media Thickness or ABCD2 Score or Both?
Conclusion:Compared to ABCD2 score, CIMT proved to be more accurate to predict cardiovascular events in long ‑term follow‑ups (AUC = 0.736 vs. AUC = 0.640). However, adding CIMT value to ABCD2 score was even better (AUC = 0.750). Therefore, CIMT measurement in the ABCD2 score after TIA enables prediction of long‑term cardiovascular events. Keywords:Area under curve, carotid intima ‑media thickness, receiver operating characteristic curve, stroke, transient ischemic attack

Calycosin-7-O-β-D-glucoside reduces myocardial injury in heat stroke rats
ConclusionWe thus conclude that myocardial injury can be a pressing need for the design of diagnostic and therapeutic modalities for heat stroke. In particular, our data indicate that CG protects against heat stroke in rats by mitigating myocardial injury.

Risk of posterior circulation stroke in patients with cervical spondylosis: A nationwide, population-based study
Cervical spondylosis (CS) is reported to be associated with vertebrobasilar insufficiency. However, few cohort studies have investigated the association between CS and posterior circulation ischemic stroke.

Establishment and validation of a prediction model for ischemic stroke risks in patients with type 2 diabetes
Diabetes is a formidable global health threat because of its high prevalence and numerous complications. Furthermore, diabetes is a leading cause of mortality and microvascular and macrovascular diseases, including coronary diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, and peripheral vascular diseases. A recent study reports that risk of stroke in patients with type 2 diabetes is two to five times higher than the general population[1]. The World Health Organization MONICA project reported that stroke incidence is higher among ethnic Chinese population than among Western population [2].

Thromboinflammatory Functions of Platelets in Ischemia –Reperfusion Injury and Its Dysregulation in Diabetes
Semin Thromb Hemost DOI: 10.1055/s-0037-1613694Ischemia–reperfusion (IR) injury is a common complication of a variety of cardiovascular diseases, including ischemic stroke and myocardial infarction (MI). While timely re-establishment of blood flow in a thrombosed artery is the primary goal of acute therapy in these diseases, paradoxically, reperfusion of ischemic tissue can cause widespread microvascular dysfunction that significantly exacerbates organ damage. Reperfusion injury is associated with activation of the humoral and cellular components of the hemostatic and innate immune systems and also with excessive reactiv...

Independent predictors of medication adherence among Singaporean patients following an ischaemic stroke or transient ischaemic attack
ConclusionMedication adherence was poor in Singaporean patients following an ischaemic stroke or transient ischaemic attack. The independent predictors identified in this study will support healthcare professionals to develop tailored intervention to improve medication adherence among this group of patients. Relevance to clinical practiceNurses play an important role in promoting patients’ medication adherence. Helping stroke patients understand the long‐term benefits of their medications is essential to enhance patients’ medication adherence and results in better health outcomes.

A Crucial Role of CXCL14 for Promoting Regulatory T Cells Activation in Stroke
Inflammatory processes have a detrimental role in the pathophysiology of ischemic stroke. However, little is known about the endogenous anti-inflammatory mechanisms in ischemic brain. Here, we identify CXCL14 as a critical mediator of these mechanisms. CXCL14 levels were upregulated in the ischemic brains of humans and rodents. Moreover, hypoxia inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) drives hypoxia- or cerebral ischemia (CI)-dependent CXCL14 expression via directly binding to the CXCL14 promoter. Depletion of CXCL14 inhibited the accumulation of immature dendritic cells (iDC) or regulatory T cells (Treg) and increased the ...

Aortic Arch Pulse Wave Velocity Assessed by Magnetic Resonance Imaging as a Predictor of Incident Cardiovascular EventsNovelty and Significance Arterial Stiffness
The predictive value of aortic arch pulse wave velocity (PWV) assessed by magnetic resonance imaging for cardiovascular disease (CVD) events has not been fully established. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the association of arch PWV with incident CVD events in MESA (Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis). Aortic arch PWV was measured using magnetic resonance imaging at baseline in 3527 MESA participants (mean age, 62±10 years at baseline; 47% men) free of overt CVD. Cox regression was used to evaluate the risk of incident CVD (coronary heart disease, stroke, transient ischemic attack, or heart failure) in rel...
