Factors Associated with Antiretroviral Therapy Adherence Among a Community-Based Sample of Sexual Minority Older Adults with HIV
This study utilized a stochastic search variable selection (SVSS) approach to explore potential psychosocial and structural factors associated with HIV-related health outcomes among a community-based sample of older sexual minorities (N  = 150) in South Florida, an U.S. HIV-epidemic epicenter. After SVSS, a forward entry regression approach suggested unstable housing, illicit substance use, current nicotine use, and depression were all associated with poorer ART adherence among older sexual minority adults living with HIV. No a ssociations between potential correlates and biological measures of HIV disease severity wer...

Pharmacological inhibition of S6K1 rescues synaptic deficits and attenuates seizures and depression in chronic epileptic rats
CONCLUSION: In conclusion, our data suggest that inhibition of S6K1 attenuates seizures and depression in chronic epileptic rats via the rescue of synaptic structural and functional deficits. Given the wide range of physiological functions of mTOR, inhibition of its effective but relatively simple functional downstream molecules is a promising target for the development of drugs for epilepsy.PMID:37736829 | DOI:10.1111/cns.14475

Risk Stratification in a Tertiary Care Spine Centre: Comparison Between STarTBack and OSPRO-YF Screening Tools

Patients with fibromyalgia in Finnish healthcare center - one-year follow up
CONCLUSION: With these results, we cannot conclude that ÖMPSQ predicts the patient's severity of symptoms. On the contrary, we can conclude that antidepressants and/or psychological therapy might reduce fibromyalgia symptoms for depressed patients with fibromyalgia. Patients with fibromyalgia might benefit from clinical evaluation and modifications to the treatment plan if necessary.PMID:37738389 | DOI:10.1080/02813432.2023.2259960

Network Analysis of Health-related Behaviors, Insomnia, and Depression Among Urban Left-behind Adolescents in China
This study aims to examine the symptom level associations among multiple health-related behaviors, insomnia, and depression in urban LBA. Data on a sample of urban LBA aged 11-19 (N = 3,601) from the Adolescent Mental Health Survey in Shenzhen, China, were used. Health-related behaviors (i.e., Internet use, physical inactivity, social jetlag, smoking, and alcohol consumption), insomnia, and depressive symptoms were assessed using a self-administered questionnaire. Graphical Gaussian Model (GGM) was used to describe key bridging nodes in an undirected network. Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) was used to construct a directed ne...

Cardiovascular adverse reactions associated with escitalopram in patients with underlying cardiovascular diseases: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionEscitalopram does not significantly increase the risk of cardiovascular adverse reactions compared with placebo in patients with underlying cardiovascular disease. However, the presence of wide CIs and the limited number of included studies highlight the need for further studies with larger sample sizes to enhance the precision and reliability of these findings.Systematic review registration: International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews [CRD42022298181].

With Demand for Mental-Health Care Soaring on Campus, Faculty and Students Are Stepping Up to Help
After the pandemic shut down Duke University’s campus in 2020, public-policy professor Nick Carnes worried about how his students would fare both educationally and emotionally. Wanting to help in whatever way he could, he added a simple message to his email signature. “A note to students,” he wrote. “Please let me or another Duke professor know if you’re having any problems with your safety, well-being, or access to educational or other resources, or if you need to talk about anything right now, and/or if you know of another student who is having trouble. The protective role of resilience in the reporting of post-concussive symptoms within a non-clinical sample
Conclusion: Resilience, particularly perception of self, is a positive protective factor in the reporting of PCS. These findings highlight the importance of early identification of less resilient individuals following trauma-such as an mTBI and provide a potential rationale for the incorporation of resilience-based rehabilitation programs into the recovery process, particularly those that promote greater self-efficacy and self-competency.PMID:37731324 | DOI:10.1080/13854046.2023.2256949
