Abstract 867: Reproductive factors and risk of B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma among women in Los Angeles
Conclusions: Our results provide evidence for an association between female reproductive factors and decreased risk of B-cell NHL, supporting a role for hormonal factors in B-cell NHL etiology.Citation Format: Yani Lu, Jianning Luo, Sophia Wang, Jane Sullivan-Halley, Wendy Cozen, Leslie Bernstein. Viruses, Vol. 8, Pages 40: Mother-to-Child Transmission of HTLV-1 Epidemiological Aspects, Mechanisms and Determinants of Mother-to-Child Transmission
Human T-cell Lymphotropic Virus type 1 (HTLV-1) is a human retrovirus that infects at least 5–10 million people worldwide, and is the etiological agent of a lymphoproliferative malignancy; Adult T-cell Leukemia/Lymphoma (ATLL); and a chronic neuromyelopathy, HTLV-1 Associated Myelopathy/Tropical Spastic Paraparesis (HAM/TSP), as well as other inflammatory diseases such as infective dermatitis and uveitis. Besides sexual intercourse and intravenous transmission, HTLV-1 can also be transmitted from infected mother to child during prolonged breastfeeding. Some characteristics that are linked to mother-to-child transmission ...

Neuroimmunology of Human T-Lymphotropic Virus Type 1-Associated Myelopathy/Tropical Spastic Paraparesis
Conclusion Recent advances in research on HTLV-1 provide better understanding of the molecular pathogenesis and mechanisms of HAM/TSP, and several clinical trials of novel therapies for patients with HAM/TSP have been initiated. However, long-term improvement of motor disability and quality of life still have not been achieved in HAM/TSP patients, and the clinical management remains challenging. Given that HAM/TSP is characterized by activated T-cells in both the periphery and CNS, studies in HAM/TSP will be highly informative for clarifying the pathogenesis of other neuroinflammatory disorders such as multiple sclerosis....

Primary diffuse large B cell lymphoma of the lactating left breast. A case report and review of the literature.
CONCLUSION: Although bilateral primary DLBCL during breast feeding is very rare, mothers should be examined for breast mass during pregnancy and breastfeeding term. Surgery may be choice for local control of disease and supplementary radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy should be administered promptly following surgery. Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy for people with relapsed or refractory diffuse large B-cell lymphoma
CONCLUSIONS: The available evidence on the benefits and harms of CAR T-cell therapy for people with r/r DLBCL is limited, mainly because of the absence of comparative clinical trials. The results we present should be regarded in light of this limitation and conclusions should be drawn very carefully. Due to the uncertainty in the current evidence, a large number of ongoing investigations and a risk of substantial and potentially life-threatening complications requiring supplementary treatment, it is critical to continue evaluating the evidence on this new therapy.PMID:34515338 | DOI:10.1002/14651858.CD013365.pub2

Association Between Cancer Incidence and Mortality in Web-Based Data in China: Infodemiology Study
Conclusions: Search behaviors indeed reflect public awareness of cancer from a different angle. Research on internet search behaviors could present an innovative and timely way to monitor and estimate cancer incidence and mortality rates, especially for cancers not included in national registries.

A Systematic Review on Predisposition to Lymphoid (B and T cell) Neoplasias in Patients With Primary Immunodeficiencies and Immune Dysregulatory Disorders (Inborn Errors of Immunity)
Conclusions Though this is not a comprehensive summary of malignancies in PIDDs, or even lymphoproliferative disease in this area, this review summarizes the Medline-indexed published reports of B and T lymphomas in patients with PIDDs. This report highlights the diversity of malignant lymphoproliferative disorders in setting of PIDDs, and its associated challenges of diagnosis and treatment. The pathological classification and nomenclature for the lymphoid malignancies with variably reported and postulated underlying mechanisms were inconsistent and inadequate for many of these published reports. A wide range of treatmen...

A Meta-Analysis of the Efficacy of Pomalidomide-Based Regimens for the Treatment of Relapsed/Refractory Multiple Myeloma After Lenalidomide Exposure
CONCLUSION: Pomalidomide-based combination regimens were effective in patients with RRMM previously treated with lenalidomide and tended to be associated with better outcomes when used earlier in the treatment pathway. A drug class switch may not always be necessary when making treatment decisions for patients with RRMM for whom the benefits of lenalidomide have been exhausted, although this must be supported by comparative studies.PMID:37684184 | DOI:10.1016/j.clml.2023.07.010

Salt-Tolerant Antifungal and Antibacterial Activities of the Corn Defensin ZmD32
We examined whether the high charge on ZmD32 would allow this defensin to retain activity in media with elevated salt concentrations. ZmD32 inhibited C. albicans, C. auris, C. glabrata, C. krusei, C. parapsilosis, and C. tropicalis growth with IC50 values ranging from 0.7 to 3.0 in ½ PDB medium containing 100 mM NaCl. In contrast, NaD1 was only active against C. parapsilosis and C. tropicalis with IC50 values of 3.4 and 1.3 μM, respectively, in medium with added NaCl. ZmD32 also retained activity against E. coli when NaC1 concentrations were raised to 100 mM while NaD1 did not (Table 1). For C. albicans and C...

Yoga in addition to standard care for patients with haematological malignancies.
CONCLUSIONS: The currently available data provide little information about the effectiveness of yoga interventions for people suffering from haematological malignancies. The finding that yoga may be beneficial for the patients' quality of sleep is based on a very small body of evidence. Therefore, the role of yoga as an additional therapy for haematological malignancies remains unclear. Further high-quality randomised controlled trials with larger numbers of participants are needed to make a definitive statement. PMID: 24919720 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Clinical utility of serologic testing for celiac disease in asymptomatic patients: an evidence-based analysis.
The objective of this evidence-based analysis was to evaluate the clinical utility of serologic testing for celiac disease in asymptomatic individuals presenting with one of the non-gastrointestinal conditions evaluated in this report. The clinical utility was based on the effects of a gluten-free diet (GFD) on outcomes specific to each of these conditions. The prevalence of celiac disease in asymptomatic individuals and one of these non-gastrointestinal conditions was also evaluated. CLINICAL NEED AND TARGET POPULATION: CELIAC DISEASE: Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease characterized by a chronic inflammatory sta...

What do we know about psychological outcomes of lymphoma in adults?
The goal of this review is to present the results of research on the influence of lymphoma on patients’ emotional status and cognitive functioning. A literature search was conducted to identify articles in English that investigated short- and long-term psychological outcomes of lymphoma and lymphoma treatment. Studies published prior to July 2016 were located by an electronic search using relevant databases such as ScienceDirect and PubMed. The search terms used included both medical subject headings and keywords such as “Hodgkin lymphoma,” “non-Hodgkin lymphoma,” “therapy,” “treatment,” “malignant,” ...
