Weight Change and Mortality from Cardiovascular Diseases: The Japan Collaborative Cohort Study.
CONCLUSIONS: Weight loss or gain could be a risk factor for mortality from total or ischemic CVD, while weight loss could be a risk factor for intracerebral hemorrhage. PMID: 32378530 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Is Arterial Stiffness a Determinant of Hypotension?
ConclusionsHypotension is a quite common phenomenon in older subjects. Its prevention requires a more accurate management of hypertension aimed at better identifying which older subjects in whom intensive BP control may be harmful and those who may benefit from it.

Coronary artery calcification scoring system based on the coronary artery calcium data and reporting system (CAC-DRS) predicts major adverse cardiovascular events or all-cause death in patients with potentially curable lung cancer without a history of cardiovascular disease
In conclusion, the CAC-DRS score on non-gated standard CT can predict incident MACEs and/or all-cause death in patients with potentially curable resected lung cancer. Lung cancer survivors with a greater CAC-DRS category may need more active management of cardiovascular risk factors.

Height Is Associated with Dyslipidemia in Korean Premenopausal Women: Data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey
Conclusion: There was a dose-dependent correlation between adult height and adverse lipid profile in premenopausal Korean women who did not have CVD. This finding could serve as further evidence that dyslipidemia can be a link between shortness and CVD.Cardiology

Direct oral anticoagulants in the prevention of stroke in breast cancer patients with atrial fibrillation during adjuvant endocrine therapy: A cohort study
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a frequent comorbidity in malignant patients. Anticancer therapies complicate anticoagulant strategy. We evaluated the safety and efficacy of long-term use of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) in breast cancer women.

Association Between Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors with Cardiovascular Events and Atherosclerotic Plaque.
Conclusions: Cardiovascular events were higher after initiation of ICIs, potentially mediated by accelerated progression of atherosclerosis. Optimization of cardiovascular risk factors and increased awareness of cardiovascular risk, prior to, during and after treatment, should be considered among patients on an ICI. Vitamin C: historical perspectives and heart failure
AbstractVitamin C (Vit C) is an ideal antioxidant as it is easily available, water soluble, very potent, least toxic, regenerates other antioxidants particularly Vit E, and acts as a cofactor for different enzymes. It has received much attention due to its ability in limiting reactive oxygen species, oxidative stress, and nitrosative stress, as well as it helps to maintain some of the normal metabolic functions of the cell. However, over 140 clinical trials using Vit C in different pathological conditions such as myocardial infarction, gastritis, diabetes, hypertension, stroke, and cancer have yielded inconsistent results....

Cardiovascular Complications of Prostate Cancer Therapy
AbstractPurpose of reviewWith treatment advances, the most common cause of death in prostate cancer patients is cardiovascular disease. Discerning the contribution of prostate cancer treatment on cardiovascular complications versus the natural progression of cardiovascular disease remains an ongoing area of investigation. Evaluating the research and identifying opportunities for further investigation is critical for optimal care of this prostate cancer patient population.Recent findingsThe degree that hormone therapy contributes to cardiovascular morbidity and mortality remains uncertain with conflicting results from large...

Nigella Sativa (Black seeds), a Potential herb for the Pharmacotherapeutic Management of Hypertension - A Review.
Authors: Pakkir Maideen NM, Balasubramanian R, Ramanathan S Abstract Hypertension is one of the leading risk factors of stroke, myocardial infarction and untimely death. The prevalence of hypertension is extremely high among the global population and many of them depend on modern medicines to manage their blood pressure. The modern antihypertensive medications include angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs), angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs), calcium channel blockers (CCBs), diuretics, betaadrenergic blockers, direct renin inhibitors, direct acting vasodilators, alpha-adrenergic blockers and centrall...

Procedural and Short-Term Outcomes of Percutaneous Left Atrial Appendage Closure in Patients with Cancer
Percutaneous left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) with the Watchman device (Boston Scientific) has emerged as an alternative to anticoagulation in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). Cancer is a common comorbidity in patients with AF (1,2). Also, AF patients with cancer reportedly have a higher bleeding risk with a similar or higher stroke risk than those without cancer (3). Thus, AF patients with cancer unsuitable for anticoagulation can be indicated for LAAC to prevent AF-related thromboembolism (2).

Arterial Thrombotic Complications of Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors.
Abstract Abnormal expression or function of several classes of kinases contribute to the development of many types of solid and hematologic malignancies. TKs (tyrosine kinases) in particular play a role in tumor growth, metastasis, neovascularization, suppression of immune surveillance, and drug resistance. TKIs (tyrosine kinase inhibitors) targeted to TKs such as BCR-ABL1, VEGF receptors, PDGF receptors, have transformed therapy of certain forms of cancer by providing excellent efficacy with relatively low adverse event rates. Yet some of these agents have been associated with high rates of vascular events, presu...

Current status of oral anticoagulant adherence in Japanese patients with atrial fibrillation: A claims database analysis
CONCLUSION: In a real-world Japanese claim data analysis, about 70% of patients under DOAC showed persistence with anticoagulation therapy at 3 years. High adherence to DOACs assessed by PDC (over 90%) persisted to 3 years regardless of the types of DOACs.PMID:33663881 | DOI:10.1016/j.jjcc.2021.02.007
