Real-World Management of Patients With Osteoporosis at Very High Risk of Fracture
In this study, we examined the prevalence of patients at very high risk of fracture and evaluated real-world treatment practices for these patients.METHODS: This retrospective observational cohort study used real-world data linked to commercial and Medicare medical claims from Symphony Health PatientSource. Patients 50 years and older with osteoporosis (determined by the presence of a diagnosis code) and at very high risk of fracture according to the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) and American College of Endocrinology (ACE) (AACE/ACE) 2020 guidelines between January 1, 2018, and December 31, 2018,...

Bone mineral density response to antiosteoporotic drugs in older depressed adults
ConclusionsOur study has shown that the presence of depression and/or serotonergic antidepressant use was associated with non-response to osteoporosis treatment in older adults. The results of our study may guide physicians to make treatment decisions in older individuals with depression. (Source: Archives of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery)

Bone Microarchitecture and Strength Changes During Teriparatide and Zoledronic Acid Treatment in a Patient with Pregnancy and Lactation-Associated Osteoporosis with Multiple Vertebral Fractures
In this report, we describe the case of a 34-year old woman diagnosed with severe osteoporosis and multiple vertebral fractures after her first pregnancy, who was subsequently treated with teriparatide (TPTD) and zoledronic acid (ZA). We des cribe the clinical features, imaging examination, and genetic analysis. Substantial improvements were observed in areal and volumetric bone mineral density (BMD), microarchitecture, and strength between 7 and 40 months postpartum as assessed by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry at the total hip and spine and by high-resolution peripheral quantitative CT at the distal radius and tibiae....
