Loureirin A is a narrow-spectrum antimicrobial agent against < em > Helicobacter pylori < /em >
In this study, loureirin A (LrA), a traditional Chinese medicine monomer extracted from Sanguis Draconis flavones, was found to possess specific antibacterial activity against H. pylori without the bacteria displaying a tendency to develop resistance in vitro. LrA demonstrated a synergistic or additive effect when combined with omeprazole (a proton pump inhibitor) against H. pylori. The combination of LrA and omeprazole showed promising anti-H. pylori potential, exhibiting notable in vivo efficacy comparable to standard triple therapy in mouse models infected with both drug-sensitive and drug-resistant H. pylori strains. M...

Syringic acid guards against indomethacin-induced gastric ulcer by alleviating inflammation, oxidative stress and apoptosis
Biotech Histochem. 2024 Apr 22:1-10. doi: 10.1080/10520295.2024.2344477. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of syringic acid, an anti-oxidant, on indomethacin induced gastric ulcers in rats. Experimental groups were control, ulcer, ulcer treated with 20 mg/kg esomeprazole (a proton pump inhibitor that reduces acid secretion), and ulcer treated with 100 mg/kg syringic acid. Rats were pretreated with esomeprazole or syringic acid two weeks before ulcer induction. Our histopathological observations showed that either syringic acid or esomeprazole attenuated the severity of gast...

Efficacy and safety of proton pump inhibitors on cardiovascular events and inflammatory factors in patients with upper gastrointestinal bleeding undergoing dual antiplatelet therapy
ConclusionMelena was the most frequent clinical manifestation in UGIB patients. The use of PPIs did not increase the risk of CVEs, and different PPI drugs did not affect the occurrence of CVEs. Furthermore, PPIs lowered CRP and TNF- α levels in serum of these patients. (Source: Inflammopharmacology)

Safety, Tolerability, and Pharmacokinetics of Anaprazole, a Novel Proton Pump Inhibitor, in Healthy Chinese Subjects
In conclusion, anaprazole sodium enteric-coated tablets were found to be sa fe and well tolerated in healthy Chinese individuals. Anaprazole is absorbed and metabolized consistently in the human body without any accumulation. (Source: Clinical Pharmacology in Drug Development)

Rectal gastric heterotopia with fundic gland polyps, mimicking a high-risk primary anorectal neoplasm: histological evidence of the effects of gastric acid-suppressing medication in a rectal ‘outlet patch’
Gastric heterotopia can occur in any part of the gastrointestinal tract but is rare in the rectum. This case of rectal gastric heterotopia is novel as the heterotopic mucosa contained fundic gland polyps, and there were histological changes in the gastric glands characteristic of proton pump inhibitor-related changes. These changes included apocrine-like luminal cytoplasmic protrusions in cystically dilated oxyntic gland parietal cells. These are well described in the native stomachs of PPI treated patients, but this is the first report of these changes in heterotopic gastric mucosa to our knowledge. Long-term Outcome of Asymptomatic Esophageal Eosinophilia
CONCLUSIONS: : Some patients with aEE had improved findings without treatment, whereas others developed symptoms, emphasizing the importance of long-term monitoring and individualized treatment decisions.PMID:38623060 | DOI:10.5009/gnl230398 (Source: Gut and Liver)

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1517: Long-Term Intake of Proton-Pump Inhibitors Could Be Associated with an Increased Incidence of Liver Cancer in Women
Conclusions: Our data suggest that long-term PPI intake in women as well as in patients < 60 years might be associated with an increased risk of liver cancer. These findings support current efforts to reduce the inappropriate use of PPIs in routine clinical practice and to link PPI prescribing to a clear medical indication. (Source: Cancers)

Prenatal Exposure to Acid Suppressor Medications and Development of Ductus Arteriosus in Term Newborns
Conclusion PDA incidence in term infants in our population was greater than previously reported. PPI and H2RA are both antiacids with different mechanisms of action. The similar OR for exposure to one as well as the other, and the lack of influence of the initial exposure period, are compatible with bias. Long-term course of untreated asymptomatic esophageal eosinophilia and minimally symptomatic eosinophilic esophagitis
Conclusions Untreated aEE and mEoE are not likely to worsen even without treatment at least for a median follow-up of 7 years. Instead, the localized type may spontaneously improve, implying a different pathogenesis in the presence of the diffuse type. Further studies should clarify the long-term prognosis. Differences Between Patients with Heartburn Refractory to Vonoprazan and Those Refractory to Proton Pump Inhibitors
ConclusionPatients with unproven GERD with vonoprazan-refractory heartburn demonstrated more symptoms, including not only GERD symptoms but also functional dyspepsia and irritable bowel syndrome symptoms, than those with PPI-refractory heartburn. (Source: Digestive Diseases and Sciences)
