Safety and efficacy of a low-dose combination of midazolam, alfentanil, and propofol for deep sedation of elderly patients undergoing ERCP
Proper sedation of patients, particularly elderly individuals, who are more susceptible to sedation-related complications, is of significant importance in endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP).... (Source: BMC Gastroenterology)

General purpose propofol target-controlled infusion using the marsh model with adjusted weight input
We report a simple method for adjusting the weight input of the Marsh target-controlled infusion (TCI) model such that the resulting infusion regime closely mimics the behaviour of the Eleveld model, thereby making the Marsh model more precise for patients at the extremes of age and body mass index. To assess the performance of our method, we simulated 2768 subjects with diverse combinations of age, weight, height and sex undergoing a hypothetical four-hour propofol TCI using both the Marsh model with our weight adjustment and the Eleveld model. The weight adjusted Marsh model produced infusion regimes and corresponding ef...

Propofol improves survival in a murine model of sepsis via inhibiting Rab5a-mediated intracellular trafficking of TLR4
Propofol is a widely used anesthetic and sedative, which has been reported to exert an anti-inflammatory effect. TLR4 plays a critical role in coordinating the immuno-inflammatory response during sepsis. Wheth... (Source: Journal of Translational Medicine)

Enhancing Safety in Tumescent Liposuction: Managing Sedation-Related Respiratory Issues and Serious Complications Under Deep Sedation with the Propofol –Ketamine Protocol
ConclusionsThe analysis of 3094 tumescent liposuction cases highlighted the overall safety profile of the propofol –ketamine protocol under deep sedation. The scarcity of severe complications underscores its viability. The study emphasizes the significance of thorough preoperative assessments, careful patient selection, and awareness of potential complications. Prompt interventions, particularly in addressing sedation-related respiratory issues, further contribute to positive outcomes for patients.Level of Evidence IVThis journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each article. The effect of propofol on effective brain networks
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that the number of effective network connections decreases, but network measures are only marginally affected.SIGNIFICANCE: The primary network topology is preserved under propofol.PMID:38522268 | DOI:10.1016/j.clinph.2024.01.012 (Source: Clinical Neurophysiology)

Molecules, Vol. 29, Pages 1445: Rearrangement of Arylsulfamates and Sulfates to Para-Sulfonyl Anilines and Phenols
nes The C(sp2)-aryl sulfonate functional group is found in bioactive molecules, but their synthesis can involve extreme temperatures (>190 °C or flash vacuum pyrolysis) and strongly acidic reaction conditions. Inspired by the 1917 Tyrer industrial process for a sulfa dye that involved an aniline N(sp2)-SO3 intermediate en route to a C(sp2)-SO3 rearranged product, we investigated tributylsulfoammonium betaine (TBSAB) as a milder N-sulfamation to C-sulfonate relay reagent. Initial investigations of a stepwise route involving TBSAB on selected anilines at room temperature enabled the isolation of N(...
