Subspecialty+Palliative Care in academic setting
Hi everyone, Just wondering if there's anyone who's board certified/eligible in both HPM and a subspecialty of some sort (or primary care/hospitalist) who's able to practice both in an academic setting? (i.e. someone who's boarded in Medical Oncology/Hematology/Nephrology/PCCM etc. and HPM who does a mix of both, or someone who does a week of hospitalist + 1 week of HPM, rinse and repeat.) Basic question: can a person practice both another specialty/their original primary specialty and HPM... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Post-Residency “Privademic” Practice Options... Non-Compete Problem?
I want to maintain positive aspects of private practice and academia in my career and want to know if this would be feasible. I have the opportunity to invest in a group of primary care clinics and SNFs (as an owner not practitioner, would not be seeing patients), but would also like to maintain a hospitalist/clinical professor position at my home academic institution. The flexible hospitalist schedule would allow me time to manage the business while maintaining the academic affiliation... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

UC Davis vs UCSD
Hi y’all. I’ve received acceptances to two of my top choices and I hoping for some perspective. At the moment, I’m hoping to pursue some sort of primary care specialty (e.g. FM, IM) with an emphasis on underserved medicine/ community health, substance use med, and/or policy. I hope to match back to California, but slim chance of going out of state. I'm really stuck UC Davis Pros Close to home (Bay Area), family, and significant other Relatively cheaper rent in Sac... Bernie Sanders, Midlevels in Pain, & Your Prosperity
No one’s promising you can keep your doctor anymore Democrats and Republicans agree that the primary care system needs an overhaul. They’re encouraging nurses to do more and embracing virtual care. www.politico.com "To deal with that dearth, the Biden administration and Congress are pushing policies to change how primary care providers are paid and to encourage nurses to take on larger roles. They’re facilitating virtual care’s expansion by lifting restrictions on when and how it can be used." (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Resident Continuity Clinic vs "Real World" Outpatient
A vast majority of my colleagues go into hospital medicine upon graduating. Even those thinking of doing outpatient end up taking hospitalist jobs. My program is very inpatient heavy and the only exposure we get to primary care is our continuity clinic where we commonly see low-functioning, uninsured, uneducated, chronically co-morbid, often drug addicted patients. We get a taste of insurance company denials, mountainous levels of paperwork, and an outdated EMR (eCW). Could this lack of... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
