Lung Protective Ventilation during Pregnancy: An Observational Cohort Study
Conclusion LTVV was utilized more often than HTVV among pregnant women in all trimesters. There was a high prevalence of maternal and fetal morbidity and fetal mortality among our cohort. Sarcoidosis in pregnancy
Key content: Sarcoidosis is an uncommon multi-system disorder characterised by the presence of non-caseating granulomas. It has a peak incidence between the ages of 20 –40 years old. The pathogenesis of sarcoidosis is uncertain; however, it is known to be associated with an exaggerated T helper 1 (TH1) immune response leading to systemic inflammation and granuloma formation. Suppression in TH1 responses in pregnancy leads to disease remission in the majority of pregnancies. Nevertheless, the potential for decompensation in a subgroup remains, and  consideration should be given to the pre-pregnancy state. Sarcoidos...

Hospital-acquired pneumonia due to Burkholderia cepacia in a thalassemia pregnancy with postoperative eclampsia: A case report
Respir Med Case Rep. 2024 Apr 4;49:102021. doi: 10.1016/j.rmcr.2024.102021. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTThere are limited case reports on individuals infected with Burkholderia cepacia who do not have typical risk factors, particularly pregnant women with beta-thalassemia. A 34-year-old pregnant female with beta-thalassemia trait and hypertension was admitted to the hospital. The patient was diagnosed with eclampsia and underwent a cesarean section. After two days following the surgery, the patient experienced hospitality-acquired pneumonia. B.cepacia was isolated from blood cultures, and antibiotic susceptibility testing ind...

Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy among women with cardiovascular disease in Norway: A historical cohort study
ConclusionsThe occurrence of hypertensive disease of pregnancy in the study cohort was more than doubled compared to the general population in Norway. The risk of HDP increased with maternal cardiovascular risk group. We recommend taking into account maternal cardiovascular risk group when assessing risk and prophylaxis of HDP. Considering belimumab during pregnancy: A more viable option over time
CONCLUSIONS: Belimumab may be an option for pregnant women with difficult-to-control lupus. Further research is needed to confirm the absence of association between belimumab and foetal harm.PMID:38594808 | DOI:10.1177/09612033241245549 (Source: Lupus)

Maternal and fetal outcomes in pregnancy complicated by pre-existing lupus nephritis: Insights from a developing country Pakistan
CONCLUSION: The maternal and fetal outcomes in pre-existing LN depend on the disease activity at the time of conception. No correlation was found between International Society of Nephrology/Renal Pathology Society (ISN/RPS) classes of LN and adverse disease and pregnancy outcomes.PMID:38594605 | DOI:10.1177/09612033241246642 (Source: Lupus)

Hypertensive Disorders of Pregnancy
Am Fam Physician. 2024 Mar;109(3):251-260.ABSTRACTHypertensive disorders of pregnancy are a major contributor to maternal morbidity and mortality in the United States and include chronic and gestational hypertension, preeclampsia, HELLP (hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelet count) syndrome, eclampsia, and chronic hypertension with superimposed preeclampsia. For patients with chronic hypertension, oral antihypertensive therapy should be initiated or titrated at a blood pressure threshold of 140/90 mm Hg or greater. Gestational hypertension and preeclampsia without severe features can be managed with blood pre...

Association Between Hypertensive Disorders of Pregnancy and Interval Neurocognitive Decline: An Analysis of the Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos
CONCLUSION: The presence of preeclampsia or eclampsia was not associated with interval neurocognitive decline. In this cohort of U.S. Hispanic/Latina individuals, gestational hypertension alone was associated with decreased processing speed and executive functioning later in life.PMID:38574370 | DOI:10.1097/AOG.0000000000005571 (Source: Obstetrics and Gynecology)
