Dermatophytomas in Onychomycosis: A Scoping Review of Prevalence, Diagnosis, and Treatment
CONCLUSIONS: There is little published information regarding dermatophytomas in onychomycosis. More clinical research and physician education are needed. Although dermatophytomas have historically been considered difficult to treat, the efficacy data gathered in this scoping review have demonstrated that newer topical treatments are effective, as are oral antifungals in combination with chemical or surgical methods.PMID:38753536 | DOI:10.7547/22-161 (Source: Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association)

Novel synthesis of the first new class of triazine sulfonamide thioglycosides and the evaluation of their anti-tumor and anti-viral activities against human coronavirus
Nucleosides Nucleotides Nucleic Acids. 2024 May 16:1-18. doi: 10.1080/15257770.2024.2341406. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNovel class of triazine sulfonamide thioglycosides was designed and synthesized. Those novel structures comprising three essential and pharmacological significant moieties such as the triazine, sulfonamide, and thioglycosidic scaffolds. The triazine sulfonamides were furnished via a direct approach starting from potassium cyanocarbonimidodithioate, then the corresponding triazine sulfonamide thioglycosides were generated using the peracylated α-d-gluco- and galacto-pyranosyl bromides. Anti-viral evalu...

Assembly of In-Situ Gel Containing Nano-Spanlastics of an Angiotensin II Inhibitor as a Novel Epitome for Hypertension Management: Factorial Design Optimization, In-vitro Gauging, Pharmacokinetics, and Pharmacodynamics Appraisal
AAPS PharmSciTech. 2024 May 16;25(5):115. doi: 10.1208/s12249-024-02823-9.ABSTRACTMore than 1 billion people worldwide suffer from hypertension; therefore, hypertension management has been categorized as a global health priority. Losartan potassium (LP) is an antihypertensive drug with a limited oral bioavailability of about 33% since it undergoes the initial metabolic cycle. Thus, nasal administration is a unique route to overcome first-pass metabolism. The investigation focused on the potential effects of LP-loaded spanlastic vesicles (SNVs) on LP pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetic parameters, utilizing a thin-film hyd...

One ‐shot design elevates functional expression levels of a voltage‐gated potassium channel
We present an automated and web-accessible design algorithm called mPROSS (https://mPROSS.weizmann.ac.il), which uses phylogenetic analysis and an atomistic potential, including an empirical lipophilicity scale, to improve native-state energy. As a stringent test, we apply mPROSS to the Kv1.2 –Kv2.1 paddle chimera voltage-gated potassium channel. Four designs, encoding 9–26 mutations relative to the parental channel, were functional and maintained potassium-selective permeation and voltage dependence inXenopus oocytes with up to 14-fold increase in whole-cell current densities. Additionally, single-channel recordings r...

Alumina - Stabilized SEI and CEI in Potassium Metal Batteries
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2024 May 14:e202402214. doi: 10.1002/anie.202402214. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAluminum oxide (Al2O3) nanopowder is spin-coated onto both sides of commercial polypropene separator to create artificial solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI) and artificial cathode electrolyte interface (CEI) in potassium metal batteries (KMBs). This significantly enhances the stability, including of KMBs with Prussian Blue (PB) cathodes. For example, symmetric cells are stable after 1,000 cycles at 0.5 mA/cm2 - 0.5 mAh/cm2 and 3.0 mA/cm2 - 0.5 mAh/cm2. Alumina modified separators promote electrolyte wetting and increa...

Multifunctional laser-induced graphene circuits and laser-printed nanomaterials toward non-invasive human kidney function monitoring
Biosens Bioelectron. 2024 May 13;259:116386. doi: 10.1016/j.bios.2024.116386. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFaced with the increasing prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD), portable monitoring of CKD-related biomarkers such as potassium ion (K+), creatinine (Cre), and lactic acid (Lac) levels in sweat has shown tremendous potential for early diagnosis. However, a rapidly manufacturable portable device integrating multiple CKD-related biomarker sensors for ease of sweat testing use has yet to be reported. Here, a portable electrochemical sensor integrated with multifunctional laser-induced graphene (LIG) circuits and l...
